Yeah. Could have traded him, but even in that thread my 2 comments were basically saying I thought he should have been traded sooner.bpj wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 1:18 amHe had more value with more time, like most players, but they had chances to trade him for good value.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 10:42 pmHe was too injured at that point. He had much more value with 3-4 years left, then he busted his nut.bpj wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 10:39 pm
I was ok with it if they had done what they said they were going to do and reinvest the savings in the team.
Instead they bought a failing cable network and a restaurant next to the stadium.
Just buffoons.
Agreed, Haniger should have been sold off when he had 1 or 2 years left.
People around here were still pretty enthusiastic about the potential returns-

They embraced the part where they convinced the fans it was about getting better and not about simply saving money. This will be four years of being "competitive" at the deadline, though I think this is the worst team of the four. But who wants to bet it's the third year we are more seller than buyer and also the third year we miss the playoffs?
I think it does a lot for the team when you add talent, and I'm not just talking about the team getting better on the field. Cal doesn't make the comments he made if this pathetic ownership group has done all they can to help these guys win. And I'm certain he doesn't say it there aren't many more that feel the samw.
We keep wondering why players come here and all of a sudden forget how to play the game. I imagine this is just a fucking soul sucking culture that kills all that enters.
Re: Former Mariners tracker
Was thinking about players being superstitious. Even the most confident FAs would have to have some severe trepidation about following in the footsteps of Wong, Winker, Pollack, Garver, Haniger and Polanco down the hallway of doom to face the death and destruction of your prior baseball success.

He's really not any different than he was here. He had a killer first week and since then over 3 full months he is at .248/.292/430 with a .722 OPS and a 33% K rate.
Lat year in Seattle he was .253/.327/.419 with a .746 OPS and a 35% K rate.

The team would look a lot better if Julio had the 160 OPS+ we expected based on his rookie year.
Jorge was a 120 OPS+ guy in the 3 previous years combined. He had a season with 33 HR and 98 RBI. He was supposed to be part of the solution not part of the problem.

Polanco played in 80 games last season and had a .698 OPS on the road....

Re: Former Mariners tracker
Not me. I thought he'd be better than what we had the last few years at least.
WAR/600 told us that Rojas and Caballero had played like 5 WAR players, and that Polanco was a 2.5 WAR type.
But to just fall off like he has... just a very Mariners type outcome.
I thought he'd be a 20 HR type player with an overall decent game. He hasn't even lived up to that..
