A wade boggs doesn't sound very promising, that's funny
Re: 2024 Prospects thread
I'll fucking take Wade Boggs! And if you've watched his tape, he could easily stick at SS. He's got a good glove, good arm.
Boggs hit .328 with .415 obp and 3,010 hits

Re: 2024 Prospects thread
I seem to recall the sabermetrics crowd saying Boggs wasn't really all that good but when i look it up i see he had nearly 100 career WAR (Baseball Reference) so my recollection must have been off.

6 HRs in 469 PAs was above average power in 1904 but not 2024.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:58 amGood hit, above average power, average-ish speed, and solid defense but will probably end up at 2nd or 3rd in the majors. Baseball America has him as the #11 overall prospect so a good season next year will likely put him in the top 5.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:36 amWade Boggs is the upside? That doesn't sound too promising. So he is slow and has no power?

Bill Buckner is a guy that people thought was good hitter back in the day but really wasn't....Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:14 pmI seem to recall the sabermetrics crowd saying Boggs wasn't really all that good but when i look it up i see he had nearly 100 career WAR (Baseball Reference) so my recollection must have been off.
Boggs hit 118 HRs (1.1% of his PAs) Emerson has 6 HRs (1.3% of his PAs)
Boggs hit .328 in MLB. Emerson has hit .290 in the low minors.

Re: 2024 Prospects thread
Boggs was the early ichiro, could hit home runs but didn't like to. At least that's the story behind his 24 home run season. He did it to show he could. His numbers are pretty comparable George Brett. Brett had more home runs
Re: 2024 Prospects thread
His WAR and OPS are nearly identical. Brett had 3x the HRs and his BA was 23 points lower. Two ways to skin a cat as they say.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 4:27 pmBoggs was the early ichiro, could hit home runs but didn't like to. Re: 2024 Prospects thread
He's more hit over power, but he should have decent power if he makes it to the majors. He isn't some little guy that's slapping the ball or that has to maximize his pull-side power to get one over. And he's developing, he isn't a finished product. He'll likely put on at least 20 pounds over the next 2-3 years.D-train wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:22 pm6 HRs in 469 PAs was above average power in 1904 but not 2024.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Oct 13, 2024 3:58 amGood hit, above average power, average-ish speed, and solid defense but will probably end up at 2nd or 3rd in the majors. The larger concern for me is injuries and whether or not he can stay on the field. It's hard to develop if you can't play.
Re: 2024 Prospects thread
They said he put on 20 lb last off season and it didn't do anything for his power

Re: 2024 Prospects thread
Just give it time. There's enough power for now and hit is more important at this stage anyway. Next year will be his age-19 season and he'll be pushing for AA. I'd really like to get a report on his bat speed though. One reason I hold on to Harry Ford as a top prospect are some early reports that he had elite-level bat speed. That isn't enough, obviously, but it tells you that there's a tool the player can build on.
