Just trade for Rooker. Do whatever it takes and DH is handled.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:11 pmPretty slim pickens with DHs these days. Assuming Joc Pederson elects FA, he'd be good, but he'd want a multiyear contract at about 5 times the cost.

None of those guys get me very excited. Most of aging or washed up or both. We may be stuck with a rotating DH...
Based on Jerry's words, name the M's 1B, 2B, 3B next year.

Re: Based on Jerry's words, name the M's 1B, 2B, 3B next year.
Addendum to my proposal:
Trade: Emerson Hancock for 1B Ryan Mountcastle from the Orioles.
I have seen a few trade proposals for Ryan Mountcastle. He'd be a big bat at 1B. Last season he slashed .271/.308/.425 with 13 home runs, 63 RBI and an OPS+ of 113. The O's may be incentivized to move him since they have a ton of talent waiting to break into the bigs, especially position players. Moving Mountcastle could open a spot for Coby Mayo and/or Ryan O’Hearn.
The Orioles will get a Hancock - a cost-controlled starting pitcher. Right now he is blocked by a solid starting rotation, so he's either going to languish in the minors waiting for someone to get injured, or he's a long reliever in the MLB with the M's. He hasn't been spectacular in the majors, but he's serviceable, and has potential to develop further. He's a solid rotation piece with the floor of a number four or five starter.
So trade for Mountcastle, and move Diaz to 3B.

It all started with dumping Trumbo....bpj wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:14 pmWith their outfield plus Raley, at least it's not as bad as in the past.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:11 pmPretty slim pickens with DHs these days. The biggest problem imo is if they're still going to act like Garver's an option at DH. Backup catcher, fine. But DH? Get outta here.
They need to get the best 1B/DH type bat they can get their hands on.
It's funny how Jack Z supposedly stockpiled 1B/DH types, and now they best we can fine is Ty France? Such a waste of 1B.

Couldn't agree more. Would've made the playoffs if they'd done nothing but kept him.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:25 pmIt all started with dumping Trumbo....bpj wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:14 pmWith their outfield plus Raley, at least it's not as bad as in the past.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 8:11 pm

I've always felt Jack Z got the short end of the stick because the team underperformed in his final season making him look bad, then played up in Dipoto's first year making him look good when in reality his moves cost us the playoffs
Not that Jack Z was great, but looking back I would have taken another year or two of him over the last 9 of Dipoto.

They added Mark Trumbo to this group mid-season...
He hit 49 homeruns the next season after Dipoto shipped him off for Steve Clevenger...

Look at this lineup...
They still had Ketel Marte there waiting to step in too....

It's the best move they could make. Rooker proved himself, and what he has is exactly what the Mariners need.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:21 pmJust trade for Rooker. I'd trade every prospect that's blocked for the next 3 years and get a deal done.
If they're sticking with this starting 5 in the rotation, they can't just sit on all their Hancocks and Fords.
Re: Based on Jerry's words, name the M's 1B, 2B, 3B next year.
I agree but Rooker is not valued correctly on the trade calc. The M's did not get him and nobody else did either. I think I'll do a realistic package for Rooker 60Mbpj wrote: ↑Wed Oct 23, 2024 1:36 amIt's the best move they could make. Re: Based on Jerry's words, name the M's 1B, 2B, 3B next year.
Would anyone trade two years of Randy Arozarena, with a projected 2025 salary of $11.7 million, to Boston for four years of first baseman Triston Casas and three years of designated hitter Masataka Yoshida at $55.8 million?
The Mariners essentially would be paying Yoshida's inflated salary for the potential production of Casas at below market cost. Arozarena's salary could approach Yoshida's in 2026 but Yoshida's annual salary of $18.6 million continues through 2027.
The M's would be saddled with two overpaid designated hitters although Mitch Garver would still serve as the backup catcher.
The lefthanded bats would complement a righty-heavy lineup that would include Casas at first base and Julio Rodriguez, Victor Robles and Luke Raley in the outfield.
And the deal does nothing to address the M's needs at 2B/3B and the bullpen.
