Would anyone trade two years of Randy Arozarena, with a projected 2025 salary of $11.7 million, to Boston for four years of first baseman Triston Casas and three years of designated hitter Masataka Yoshida at $55.8 million?

The Mariners essentially would be paying Yoshida's inflated salary for the potential production of Casas at below market cost. Arozarena's salary could approach Yoshida's in 2026 but Yoshida's annual salary of $18.6 million continues through 2027.

The M's would be saddled with two overpaid designated hitters although Mitch Garver would still serve as the backup catcher.

The lefthanded bats would complement a righty-heavy lineup that would include Casas at first base and Julio Rodriguez, Victor Robles and Luke Raley in the outfield.

And the deal does nothing to address the M's needs at 2B/3B and the bullpen.
This would allow Raley to move permanently back to the OF. MLB trade values has us receiving negative net value.

Between Yoshida, Garver and Haniger that is about -$50M in "value".

Masataka just had shoulder surgery. He may or may not be ready for OD.

There's always a risk of players dropping off after surgery, so he's definitely a risky investment. I was working on a trade proposal for him last week and then abandoned it - he's owed a crazy amount of money for ostensibly a DH, and then there's the injury recovery on top of that. The Sox would have to eat a LOT of his contract to make it work.

Give us Trevor Story and Masataka and $100MM.

If we're doing a deal to take on Yoshida's money I'd rather include prospects and add Haniger into the deal instead of including Arozarena, again so we have some insurance for Robles in case 2024 was a fluke. We add multi-year money but we dump Haniger's 1 year salary.

Maybe a trade like this

Man I would do that in a second but Red Sox fans would bomb Fenway. Only reason that the values are close is because Yoshida is owed a lot more money than Haniger. Yoshida>>>>>Haniger and Casas>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Locklear.

I think they need to make Jason Vosler part of the plan next season.

He had a monster season. Exactly what you'd want to see when bringing a guy up imo.

31 HR
.303 BA
.371 OBP
.944 OPS

He had 141 hits in 119 games in AAA.

How do you not give him a chance next season? He only had 28 AB's in MLB.

Those are better numbers than Casas ever put up in the minors, and I'd be happy to have Casas.

Difference is Vosler is 7 years older, but maybe he comes up and Bucky Jacobsens for you for a couple years.

And it looks like he's a free agent now. They just let him walk..

It is wild how some guys have just crazy AAA numbers and come up and can't hit at all and other guys have decent but not great AAA numbers and come up and hit well in the big leagues.

Jerry wants VLad at 1st.
I have no idea who we plug at 3rd but it would be nice for once to have some power at the corners.

That vid is regarding the AL Central. Vlad is in the East. Zero chance Jerry would publicly say who he wants. I would love to be proved wrong.

The Jays are not trading Vlad if they didn't move him at the break last year.

They have a lot of money committed to 2025, plan on contending, and don't need to sell off until the break this year if they're not in contention.
