I can see him wanting to retire, maybe they were working on or or are working on a buyout and having announced anything

He's never going to get another contract is he?
Maybe they can extend his career by redoing the contract to a 3/$18M instead of a 1/$17M (or whatever it is).
He won't be a Mariner the whole time, but it would help everyone imo.
Haniger doesn't want to be hated by the fans imo. They shouldn't let him be.
I'd take Haniger on the team as the 5th OF vet over an extra bench guy or bullpen arm that we don't want them using anyways.
Dylan Moore and Luke Raley should be the entirety of our bench that actually gets used imo.

There's not enough random *'s in the post to convince me.
"After getting benched in the playoffs maybe it’s time for a change of scenery. Seems like a safe bet to be at least a 3-win 3B with some upside still left to tap into. Not sure what exactly he would cost but maybe its as simple as sending them Rojas to be a utility guy for them plus a high leverage reliever in Santos (Or Munoz/Brash) and/or a Logan Evans/Braydn Garcia/Emerson Hancock as young Starting Pitching depth."
Good ole lazy writing. Imagine if the Mariners traded Andres Munoz or Matt Brash for Alec Bohm. T-Mobile might burn. Then equating them to one of the young pitchers who outside of Evans, are not considered "high-end" prospects.
One thing is for sure... these trade targets either come with some warts or that wart is offloading significant prospects for non slam dunks. Where is our Mookie Betts or Juan Soto trade?
Perhaps it's buying low on Luis Robert or Bo Bichette. Who knows.

With inflation that is about a $3M cut in total value and about a 70% cut in AAV. Raley should because close to an every day player. His WAR/600 last season was 4.2bpj wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 12:45 amHe's never going to get another contract is he?

True. Still sounds better and more realistic to me than retiring and leaving $17M on the table.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 1:16 amWith inflation that is about a $3M cut in total value and about a 70% cut in AAV. Maybe 2/18 or 3/20 to spread it out...
Haniger at $17M looks bad. Haniger at $6.5M is a solid vet off the bench.
Figure out beyond 2025 after this season.
Raley deserves Arozarena's spot imo. I'd package Arozarena with Castillo and put that money to use elsewhere.
Instead they'll France him and put him at 1B where he'd probably be average.
With his legs he should be in the OF.
But even as 1st man off the bench they could platoon him with Arozarena, Robles, and 1B and he'd still get his 400+ PA's.
Re: So it begins, The official Hot Stove League Thread 2024-25 Offseason
I don't think Haniger being on the team with his salary is a big deal. It's frankly pathetic that we're even worried about it.

Players don't give a f*** about the fans or their employers I think he made the right move
