I appreciate your comments and do not disagree. There is something funny about my eyes and the screen that we use to post. I can't really read it accurately until I post it. Which is hard to justify. I have a subscription to an editor that I use in professional communications. I don't use it for posting here because this to me this is an informal communication platform. I detect errors in other people's posts, but I accept it. I never had an issue reading Somebody's Son's posts for example. I have a professional side of my life and consider this an escape from it. Here I can cuss and be critical and argumentative but could not portray any of that in my nine to five.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 2:21 amNathan you are a good guy but my God your posts are like drinking through fire hose. I usually just skip right past them. Consider being more succinct. Maybe it is just me and my ADHD.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 2:09 amAnd I am among many here who have stated that WAR puts too much importance on inconsistent D-Metrics.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 11:56 amThe most basic issue is adding wins, that's what war is about. Getting past looking at individual stats, combining everything to determine how many wins a player actually delivers. I don't care about home runs, or rbis, I care about who delivers wins. Rojas delivers more wins over burger in relatively the same amount of time. You don't agree with that? That's fine, just don't bring up war. You want to be old school then go for it, what kills me is the cherry picking. War is only used if it happens to agree with someone's `already preconceived opinion
In 2023 as you can see in Az. and Seattle Josh was worth either zero or negative runs on defensive runs saved. But after a preseason to work with Perry Hill he had + ratings at 2B and 3B. Infact; if you bother to look his whole career, he has more negative, and zero values than it does for + defense. Get Burger and I bet Perry works the same magic as he did with Saurez, and Rojas and many others before him. Jack Z tried to focus on D and run prevention. It didn't work: 2010 M's had great D
SS Josh Wilson (DFRS/year = 19) (OPS+ 62)
SS Jack Wilson (DFRS/year = 6) (OPS+ 68)
LF M. Saunders (+6 DFRS/year) (86 OPS+)
3B Jose Lopez (SFRS/Year = 10) (OPS+ 71)
1B. Casey K Defensive runs save/Year (4) (OPS+ 73) 9HR
CF F. Gutierrez (0 DEFRS/year) (87 OPS+)
RF Suzuki (SFRS/year = -1) (113 OPS+)
C Moore (-4 DFRS/year) (44 OPS+)
2B Figgins (-8 DFRS/year) (84 OPS+)
Both Cliff Lee and Felix were in the CY race that year: Felix won, Lee #7. And with 2 Aces and that D they went 61-101.
And something that should stick out to you is that both Guti and Ichiro were considered strong defenders at their positions, but this D-metric had them at zero and -1 runs saved.
Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
And the funny thing is I saw the inconsistent bullet point order, and the typos. And I said to myself "It's good enough, they'll figure it out."
Cheers
