The Seahawks coach said Williams’ departure did not have anything to do with the ACL injury he sustained last year that required surgery.

“We’re going to honor his wishes and keep all those reasons and conversations private for obvious reasons, and I wish them the best,” Macdonald said.

Yeah, and what about that LB from SF a few years back - retired after one or two seasons, and that on only a middle-round rookie salary. i can respect that choice valuing one's health over chasing dollars with all the evidence of player trauma. Connor was a 2nd rounder so probably made some fair coin in 5 years in the league plus whatever he got at Texas. ;)

Chris Borland but he didn't retire in the middle of a season. There is the aspect of letting his teammates down. It's not like retiring from a normal job, he was part of a team

I guess he was not comfortable with the organization.

So, why would he retire instead of just asking for a trade? Does he want to sit out for another full season and then come back? How does a contract like that work; this is a stumper.

You guess? I find the pithiness of your remarks in general to be confounding.

yeah, part of a team, rah rah, and all that, at this level? sure for us fans, but for the gladiators it's multi-million dollars vs. one's physical health. Not like Connor was drafted by this organization; they picked him up off the scrap heap. Been here all of two months; doubt he developed that close a bond with new mates in that short of time after playing 4 years with two other teams that each decided they could live without him - it's just business.

Yeah rah rah at that level, it's competing, it's winning. You don't think the Seahawks team was enjoying themselves, you don't think Williams would being part of that? You really don't think that's important to those guys? You don't think that's what drives a football team? To tap yourself out, just walk away from that opportunity must have been very important to him whatever it was.

Williams told The News Tribune last month he was disappointed in himself for playing below his standards since he joined the Seahawks.
