According to Nightengale, we are one of 5 teams having conversations about Goldschmidt.

5 or 10 years ago I would have been all “hell, yeah!” Now? Not so much.
A 20% chance to get a 37 yo 1B that had a .716 OPS. Exciting times!

I think, with Emerson, 25'ish home run power is a reasonable projection. It's more a question of overall development of the hit tool as he progresses and faces higher level pitching and, hopefully, becomes a better overall hitter. There may also be a coaching aspect to this as well, which is to say that the Mariners may be coaching him to hit for contact more at this stage rather than selling out for power.

Seems to be a lesson there not to ignore peripherals. I don't think theE3 Astros had a GM when they signed abreu, that was Hart

I think these things extreme drop offs will become more common in the current era of pitching.
And as I mentioned they will happen earlier and earlier....turning 30 will be a death sentence.
The point I was trying to make is why are you giving a three year contract to a guy who's data indicate he's in decline? That kinda blows my mind. Isn't that the point of having the data? Why would a super data driven outfit Like the Astros ignore it?

Maybe the guy is washed up, maybe the Astros paid too much, but by God, at least they are trying to get better.
