And this thing about vulturing other teams trades. The marlins and rangers cut a deal. I think that's how it's often done. I don't think Burger was shopped around the league. It was more two GMs talking ànd coming up with a deal. Like how Z did the Lee deal. There's a schmooze aspect to being a GM. You spend a lot of time on the phone chatting about each other's rosters

And Jerry and Justin failed to do it. ONE off season trade in an entire offseason with multiple holes to fill is a complete joke.....especially for a franchise that is all about trades.

I wonder if Dipoto's relationship with the GMs has changed, he certainly has been capable of pulling off trades.

I said before, I think dipoto is actually pretty happy with things, he doesn't view the need like fans do. He may not as motivated to make trades as he was before. And also he's no longer the gm. Everyone claims that doesn't matter, he's still in charge of trades. But I can imagine him not being on the phone with GMs like he was before. That could be more Hollander's responsibility

Has it ever happened? A guy gets traded in the off-season and then gets traded again? Such as Jerry phones up the Mets and says he'd like Mr. Soto. "Hey Mr. Xxxxxx, I've been sitting on my hands all winter but now I'd like to make a move and we'd like Juan Soto. Our owner just found a boatload of cash in his mattress and we'll give you two of our young starters" kind of scenario. Soto switches teams without posting a stat for the Mets. I've always wondered if when a trade is done then it's over for now, or can you come in behind the trade and make another trade for the same guy? (Disclaimer: Personally I'm not suggesting this trade)

I think he's just not that willing this year to make trades to bring in marginal, replacement-level players.

Carlos Santana was traded to Seattle on December 3, 2018, before the Mariners traded Santana to Cleveland 10 days later on December 13, 2018. Three-and-a-half years later the Royals traded Santana to the Mariners.

The Mariners acquired Mallex Smith from Atlanta via trade on January 11, 2017, before Smith was traded hours later to Tampa Bay. Twenty-two months later the Rays traded Smith back to the Mariners.

Garver, Haniger, Solano, Locklear, Shenton
Those FIVE combined for -0.1 fWAR last season. We don't have a DH.
Burger was good for .5 bWAR or 1.4 fWAR. I don't see that as making any real difference other than adding another extremely limited player to the roster.
When he bashes 40 hr this year in Texas, maybe rethink your bias

I'm biased because I'm making a judgement on a player based on his past performance?

I'm sure in Jerry's mind the fact that we are paying Garver means we are set at DH, production be damned
