We could have a young Tom Brady but we’re still doomed to mediocrity if we don’t significantly upgrade the offensive line. There’s a reason our line is rated as poorly as it is
This is an issue for John. His evaluation of linemen suck. He has to change his process. It has been a very bad process for 10+ years. He can't keep blaming Pete and or old Oline coaches, he is the issue. Last draft just proved the issue that has been here for 10 years. The same evaluation problem is still here with Pete gone. 2 centers came in and one got traded and the other quit mid season. Then you have the two Hayes and Lumea. And the beat goes on for crappy evaluation. Laken too. It shows the issue all along on evaluation was John nobody else.
I don't think it's poor evaluation, it's the return on their investment. When they drafted in the first round they've done alright, and they have signed decent free agents. But they spend a lot of time drafting in the lower rounds and signing budget free agents, that's cost them
These are the OL he (along with Carroll) has picked in the first 3 rounds...

Okung at 6
Carpenter at 25
Moffitt at 75
Britt at 64
Ifedi at 31
Pocic at 58
Lewis at 69
Cross at 9
Lucas at 72
Haynes at 81

Not sure if that's good, bad, or meh.

This only works if JS can finally switch gears and get interior lineman to protect SD.

When he takes the sure thing the players are at least solid starters.

When he reaches like he did on Britt, Ifedi, Pocic, Moffitt he has failed.

And Johnny does it again. Signs a 5 year vet with 27 starts on the oline. Shocking. John is John

Hey John maybe switch Can Young to oline. He can’t play as a DT. Maybe switch
Like you used to do.

So I'm thrilled with the shakeup so far - upgrade QB for less money while adding a 3rd-round pick!
but now we suddenly have all this cap room, and all the pressure (and seeming willingness finally) to spend big to fix the OL, but meanwhile all the good OL FAs are signing elsewhere (Trey Smith reups, Dalman gone, Ryan Kelly gone, Aaron Banks gone,....
gotta spend the money somewhere - I'd like an an order of (Will) Fries please!

Okung was a good pick, but sure should be at 6!
Carpenter should have been fine, but instead of moving him to Guard? They tried to justify his draft position by forcing him to play Tackle. Dude was NOT a Tackle. The first thing the Bears did was move him inside.
Moffit was shit
Britt ended up eventually being worth it, so of course, we let him walk.
Ifedi blows my mind. Poorly developed? Shouldn't he have been a good O Lineman?
Pocic was just too small wasn't he?
Lewis I have no clue about. Another one that we just didn't develop I guess, but it sure seemed like a good pick.
Cross worked out, but see Okung above. Better not fuck up a top ten pick.
Lucas was fine, just not healthy
Haynes is shit I guess. More issues with development?

Hell, maybe we are drafting these guys just fine, but can't develop them once we get them? Or can't assess where they are a good fit?

What about this tape says Sam Darnold is a "game manager" ??? lol
Well, they are playing SEA, and SEA always makes opposing QBs look good. But he's in SEA now, so he likely won't have much time to throw. Just a guess, but he'll probably spend most of his time here running for his life.

And striking out on free agent olineman again. Signing cheap no. Starters. I’m beginning to really not like Johnny
