ZERO comparison besides the fact that they are both in Eastern Washington and have a lot of wineries.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:04 amJust for the record I think I was confusing Yakima with Wenatchee. It's really been a long time since I was in that part of the country

Honestly, making that comparison - you owe Michael K an apology.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 2:51 pmZERO comparison besides the fact that they are both in Eastern Washington and have a lot of wineries.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:04 amJust for the record I think I was confusing Yakima with Wenatchee. As far as I know, Zeke's is still there. Great food.auroraave wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:16 pm
Honestly, making that comparison - you owe Michael K an apology.Man, my grandma lived in Wenatchee - spent many summers there - two blocks from Wenatchee High and two blocks from endless apple orchards. I remember there was a brick road "downtown'. Is that still there? A favorite highlight was seeing a dude that got hit by a train, sheared his leg clean off. Oh, also, waaaay back in the day, they had that famous train explosion. Does Zeke's drive in still exist on the West side going up Stevens Pass? Anyone remember that place?

Crazy you were that close to Wenatchee HS and remember the Orchards. You wouldn't recognize it now. Pretty much all homes. In college I lived off of Cherry Street, and the drive up Cherry to get to class was all orchard. Not anymore. Not any brick downtown anymore either, but a lot of the brick buildings have been historically restored, so you would probably recognize those. Key Bank pretty much looks the same (I remember when it was Rainier Bank) and just up the road from their is still McGlinn's. It might have been the Orondo when you were there. My wife works there one night a week, mostly because she loves it, but I think a lot of it is just to get away from her testosterone filled house! And, as a school teacher? She probably craves adult interaction.
I'll never leave, love it here. We live in East Wenatchee, but there are amazing homes all over the valley. I'd have loved to have my kids go to Cashmere HS, a bit smaller than Eastmont, but housing was a lot more there than here when we bought, and I wanted more yard and house. Ended up working out as I now coach a mere two blocks from my house.
I remember the guy getting hit by the train, and the explosion. Was there an Abby's pizza when you were here?

WOW! My grandparents lived 6 blocks due east from the High School on Monroe Street. My Aunt still lives in the house. I had lots of good time there growing up.auroraave wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:16 pmHonestly, making that comparison - you owe Michael K an apology.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 2:51 pmZERO comparison besides the fact that they are both in Eastern Washington and have a lot of wineries.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:04 amJust for the record I think I was confusing Yakima with Wenatchee. Yeah, this was long before the wineries. Was just out of highschool and worked construction in the area. Realize I can't keep them straight. There was baseball, that would have been Yakima, not Wenatchee

Small world. If you are back in the area you have to check out the new softball complex that WHS built right there on Miller St. Of course, it took a Title IX lawsuit before they got a complex even remotely close to as nice as football and baseball. So, now? My team has easily the worst facilities in the big 9.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:30 pm[

I wasn't far from your grandparents in the early nineties. Like I said, I lived off Cherry St, in Cherry Manor. We called it Cherry Manure. What a dump, but that was a good thing because we basically had a huge rager there every weekend! There were cops that would drive by because my house was on their nightly weekend route!

Wenatchee had a baseball team at one point, but all the pictures are black and white. So it would have had to have been eons ago! You are probably thinking of the Yakima Bears. I went to a few of their games as a kid. My mom and dad divorced and my mom lived in Wapato and Yakima most of the rest of her life.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:38 pmYeah, this was long before the wineries. Wenatchee now has a summer team called the Apple Sox, but that started pretty recent. Early 2000s I believe. It's all college kids playing wood bat. Pretty sure Yakima has one too, but I haven't been to a game in a few years.

Re: Grading the Draft
Now I'm more confused, the Bears didn't begin until 1990 and the Braves before them disbanded in 1966. So the time I'm talking about, 1974 there wouldn't have been a team. I don't know, it was minor league baseball

I recall Yakima having one when I was a kid, and I graduated in 91. So? Who knows? Seems the Tri Cities have had teams as well.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:52 pmNow I'm more confused, the Bears didn't begin until 1990 and the Braves before them disbanded in 1966.
