What would be the impact on Seattle if Portland got an MLB franchise in a few years. (pick 3)

Good: the I5 rivalry would replace the Sonics-Blazers I5 rivalry good for both clubs

Bad: The Mariners TV market would suffer by dropping 1/3rd +/- (I believe the A's would migrate south the Vegas us freeing Portland to push further South than the M's do currently

Good: Travel

Bad: Even less money that our greedy owners won't spend

Good, if in our division we might have a punching bag level team for a few years.

Bad: Portland is a smaller market. Would we lose out on comp round A and B picks. Along with whoever else joins the league presumed to be a smaller market vs Seattle, and the Oakland A's are moving from the #6 market to #42 in Vegas

Guess Russell Wilson is an investor
That aught to just endear him even more to Seattle area fans.

It would be nice if MLB and the NBA would expand to 32 teams, that's an ideal number for a league. The NFL and NHL have 32 teams and their divisions are balanced perfectly as a result.

If the NBA expands, it's a no-brainer that Seattle and Vegas would be awarded the two franchises, but MLB is a total mystery. Personally, my first instinct is that Nashville and Charlotte would be awarded franchises as both cities are booming and that would cover the big wasteland where there's no MLB. If Portland somehow pushes hard enough and pulls it off, I couldn't even guess as to whether Nashville or Charlotte would be the odd man out. As far as a darkhorse is concerned, I don't think there really is one, not even Montreal or Salt Lake City.

I personally think a Vancouver Team would be a ton more successful than a Portland team in terms of fan support.

Have they ever even made any kind of an effort on this? I've never seen any kind of a push from Vancouver, plus they lost their NBA franchise very quickly.

A team a couple hours down the road just might light a fire under ownership’s asses.

We know how they hate competition in the sports market, see them being anti-Sonics l, anti-kraken.

Am I right to say the Mariners would only need 2 other American League team owners to vote against a relocation or expansion and it won't go through? My understanding is 12 AL owners would have to vote to push it through.

If that's the case, then its pretty much nailed on that the owners will be able to sleep easily. They should be able to keep the whole of the PNW free of any competition for as long as they keep friendly with a few of their mates across the AL.

Perhaps its even possible that is why MLB expansion isn't moving at the pace you would expect - you only need 3 teams in the affected league to dissent and they can't place a team in the new market.
