OT: 2025 Open Championship Contest (17 - 19 July)
Just over a week to go until the final Major of the Year. You might call it the British Open. There are issues with the time difference - play will get underway late on Wednesday night your time so don't get caught out.
Rules:-
* PICK 4
* BUDGET - 100 Dollar pounds no need to save any money for later rounds
Protagonists may choose someone already selected by another protagonist. This is not a draft format.
Additional players:-
Everyone will be allocated an additional 2 unique players on Wednesday night (16th). Players will be put into OGWR and LIV WR order and allocated according to our own World Rankings. More about that in due course.
Scoring:-
Best 3 players count. Usual tie-breaker rules apply.
Subs & Cut:-
NO SUBSTITUTES after Round 2, as time difference makes it quite difficult. Anyone who doesn't have 3 players left will be allocated the player closest to the bottom of the leaderboard. This keeps everyone going into the weekend.

Re: OT: 2025 Open Championship Contest (17 - 19 July)
There have been enough of these golf threads that I wonder if we should have a golf forum.

Why is it called the Open Championship? It might make sense if the other majors were treated as "play-in" tournaments where only the top 25 finishers in each of those were eligible to compete in it. Otherwise, they should go back to calling it the British Open.

It’s the oldest golf tournament in the world. Before this there really was nothing of note and very quickly the tournament became Open to everyone professional pro and amateur player in the land.
It is still faithful to the principal with qualifying contests all over the world, top 50 in world rankings and winners of various tourneys including the Memorial, Arnold Palmer Invitation and Canadian Open all guaranteed slots in the Championship.
The US Open started over 30 years later.

Fair point, but they are popular and go back as far as the forum itself.
Masters 19 pages, 8998 views
PGA 14 pages, 7611 views
US Open 12 pages 3031 views
There’s been 56 active forumistas in the last month, excluding those who stay logged out. 20% of those actives play the golf things.
Why not have a go? None of us know we are doing as the last tournament proved.

Here we go again....
MM, thanks for getting this going early. I am heading out on the road soon and will not have a lot of access if shit goes sideways, so if something is needed DT can text me if needed (if he agrees to that).

0 Tom Hoge
10 Maverick McNealy
90 Scotty Scheffler

That seems like a reason to have a dedicated forum.mostonmike wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 7:41 pmFair point, but they are popular and go back as far as the forum itself.

Re: OT: 2025 Open Championship Contest (17 - 19 July)
I get all that, but calling it the British Open still seems more fitting to me. It's like tossing the name "Wimbledon" and calling it the "Grand Olde Open" instead. It smacks of a need for recognition by the ignorant masses.mostonmike wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 7:24 pmIt’s the oldest golf tournament in the world.
