Just don't see them doing it. After this latest brilliant showing in NY they might end up doing nothing.

That is starting to look like the smart thing to do. In order to have any shot in the playoffs we'd need 2-3 bats and 2-3 bullpen arms. Even then we are most likely looking at trading a lot of prospects just to go out in the first or second round of the playoffs.

I'd be for trading for pieces for the future like Acuna if you could get him.

I would not give up a primo prospect for a rental at this point. I would go for it on a meaningful non rental. You have to get better when the opportunity presents itself. That’s what the competition would do.

If Cal was having Julio's season and vice versa people would be a bit disappointed with Cal but not too surprised and they would be thrilled with Julio and we would still be mid. In this instance it's very flawed. Center fielders get a good WAR almost just from breathing, which is how Willie Mays dusted Hank Aaron during their careers, even in seasons where Aaron was clearly better than Mays. Catchers have it very tough and in Cal's case he loses WAR when he DHs.

It is a fucking stupid metric if all it takes is to jog into Center Field each night to have a good WAR. Again, does anyone possibly think that Julio's defense is so fantastic that it saves us more runs that his shitty as bat costs us? Horse Shit.

I don't think I've been more disappointed in a Seattle professional sports player since Kevin Mitchell. Maybe Adrian Beltre. Beltre put up MVP numbers everywhere he was but here. This bullshit about how no one can hit here, and Cal is having the season he is....in the lineup with turds like Rodriguez. I'm sick of the stadium excuse.

Cal has 17 HRs at home and 19 on the road. He also has 16 more at bats on the road. His average and OPS are better on the road, but that is to be expected. His slugging only drops .035 at home though.

Julio is slashing .207/.274/.321 at home and .279/.327/.447 on the road. Yet another guy that can't hit here. A .180 drop in OPS at home versus on the road. Trade his ass, or sit him every home game!

Imagine hitting .207 at home, and people using WAR as to why you deserve an All Star appearance. Again, stupid stat metric.

Sure. I wasn't being super scientific about it. I just figured some players would do better than expected and others somewhat worse, but that at the end we would look at the result and it would be clear that Julio's performance made a pretty big difference either way, and that's what's happening. Pitching has also taken a real step backwards this year, especially in the bullpen.

Wait...Julio has a .595 OPS at home? .595 is five points LOWER than Miles Mastruoboni's overall OPS.

Pitching has also taken a real step backwards this year, especially in the bullpen.

this is a very overlooked fact. People are focusing in on the offense and I do agree we need a couple of Bats but the Pitching is whats going to make or break this team. The pitchers have given up 405 runs in 93 games. Last Season after 93 games they had given up 349. If we had just had a repeat pitching performance from last year they would have a +67 run differential right now and a projected Pythagorean record of 55-38 which happens to be exactly where the Astros are. By all means they need to get a bat but if the rotation doesn't get healthy and back in a rhythm and if they don't fix the bullpen I am not sure that upgrading the offense is going to be enough.

Where’s the rocket science? We are a very good defensive team with above average starting pitching when healthy. We are a horrible offensive team relying solely on the home run. Our bullpen may actually be overachieving with several guys who should be in the minors. We knew all this a year ago. Duh? Stanton is home counting his profits while Jerry and Dan toe the party line. I think the bottom line is that ownership doesn’t care enough about winning to do what it takes.
