No i was just trying learn something. You mentioned the name of the trophy but not the name of the event. So is WallaWallaDawg correct that it was simply called "The Open"? I had no idea that the name "British Open" originated here so now i understand why you wouldn't adopt it over there.mostonmike wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 4:54 pmAre you playing and picking some players or just arguing about the name?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Jul 14, 2025 11:26 amWhat was it called then?mostonmike wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 8:04 amIts never been called the British Open. Yes, the event is plainly called "The Open".
Personally, I'm fine with this because the UK is the birthplace of golf, so they can call it what they want, and we should follow their lead. For all I care they can call it "The Greatest Mother-Fucking Golf Tournament in the World, Sponsored by Mostonmike" if they want, and I would follow suit. But for us American's, we still refer to it as The British Open because we are stubborn like that.

You mean "was". It's currently called the Open Championship, or is it the Championship Open? I have trouble getting it straight.

The way I see it, if over 300,000,000 American's call it the British Open, those Britts should get in line and follow our lead.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 7:38 pmYou mean "was". Just some updates that might not be particular relevant;
SCRATCHED Paul Waring,
SCRATCHED Ernie Els,
Players who are participating but not in the original list if anyone wants them - I could work you out the cost.
XXX K.J. Choi
XXX Si Woo Kim
XXX Davis Riley

Now for how the remaining players will be allocated;
I got a bit concerned that if we just use the Official World Golf Rankings to allocate players, someone will end up collecting Rory, Bryson or Rahm for F'k all which would make a bit of a mockery of it.
So instead I used the Data Golf Ranking list, which tries to merge the LIV and PGA tours to get a combined ranking. Then, I took players from outside the Top 20 who haven't already been selected and this is the list as I see it, I haven't matched it up to the entry list yet - but its just to give you an idea of what's coming up.
23 MATT FITZPATRICK
26 ROBERT MACINTYRE
27 JORDAN SPIETH
29 TAYLOR PENDRITH
31 NICK TAYLOR
33 ADAM SCOTT
34 AARON RAI
35 PATRICK REED
36 CHRIS GOTTERUP
37 SI WOO KIM
38 DENNY MCCARTHY
39 ANDREW NOVAK
40 DANIEL BERGER
41 LUCAS GLOVER
42 RYAN FOX
43 KEVIN YU
44 J.T. POSTON
45 AKSHAY BHATIA
46 MICHAEL KIM
47 DAVIS THOMPSON
And these will be allocated to protagonists through our own Rankings which are based on performance across the last 4 Majors which looks like this
So Darren would get Fitzpatrick, Juliooo gets MacIntyre, I take Spieth (not the prize it used to be) and so on, then do that snake draft so we all get 2 extra & unique players. But the list would obviously change if Bil chucks in his selections.
But hopefully you get the drift? I'll be doing that around 10pm UK Wednesday, which is 2pm PDT.
So last chance now for any entries. Pick 4 from the first post of the thread.

I'm in favor of converting all private golf clubs throughout the world into petting zoos.

I love the fact that the origin of Bunkers is from what Shepherds used to shelter their sheep from the severe winds.Walla Walla Dawg II wrote: ↑Tue Jul 15, 2025 7:09 pmYes, the event is plainly called "The Open".

Most golfers won't agree to be petted by small children so I don't think it will fly.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Jul 16, 2025 12:56 amI'm in favor of converting all private golf clubs throughout the world into petting zoos.
