How do we improve the club?

As per what it might take to land Geno... comparable trades I've seen in the past for a pure rental bat are:

Trading for Geno I doubt would cost much more than what you see there for Martinez or Candelario. No way Ryan Sloan is included in the deal. But I could see Michael Morales or Emerson Hancock, a random pitcher in the 20-30 range and a flier on an unranked player in rookie ball. Suarez is also making a lot more money than Martinez and Alonso were when traded. If it costs much more than that, it would be surprising.

The thing you guys aren't thinking about is the market for him. It sadly will probably cost a top 5-15 prospect to land Geno this year. The skanks are going to go all-in on him as well so the AZ GM is going to get all he can for him.

We need a 1B to if u really want to challenge for a WS as Raley/Solano really suck.

I hate to be a negative nan but:
Raley the last 3 years has gone 125, 130, and 108 OPS+, and the 108 is on an extremely small sample size and mostly a product of early season Seattle cold home park. 6.5 WAR and a 125 OPS+
Naylor has gone 127, 117, and 126 OPS+ in those same three years. 4.8 WAR and a 122 OPS+

Naylor is a downgrade.

The areas that you can upgrade are starter, 1-2BP, and 2B, 3B. But, to upgrade you have to get really good plyers you may not need perennial all-stars, but you nee to pick up guys that might make an all-star game or 2 at a min. to improve over what we got.

JD Martinez (.305/.388/.630/1.018 w. 16 homers and a 165 OPS+) from the Tigers to the Diamondbacks: Tigers received players who would be come the no. 12 (Dawel Lugo), 26 (Sergio Alcantra), and out of the top -30 (Jose King) prospects by season's end.

Yonder Alonso (.266/.369/.527/.896 w. 22 homers and a 141 OPS+) from the A's to the Mariners: A's received Boog Powell, who would be unranked in their farm system by season's end.

Jaimer Candelario (.258/.342/.481/.823 w. 16 homers... but worth 3.1 bWAR... and a 121 OPS+) for Kevin Made and DJ Herd who would be the no. 12 and 23 ranked prospects in the Nats season by season's end.

The one Wild Card is that you are competing with the Yankees so you will likely have to overpay. I bet the ask for Sloan or Felnin or Jurrangelo and Jerry says no and nobody gets traded and they just take the pick they get when Geno turns down the QO.

If young does a lot more of what he did on this road trip then he belongs and no hole to fill

In 18 plate appearances on the trip, Young hit .389 with an eye-popping 1.256 OPS. His 252 wRC+ was the highest on the team during the stretch.

Mariners

Very encouraging but a SSS and even after that hes sill has a .650 OPS. Hopefully he has a good second half and we can cross 2B off the list. 3B will still be on the list at the end of the season.

The big question is what to do with Ford. I get it from both angles. Deal him & get talent back. Bring him up & IF he rakes your a genius, bring him up & he struggles, you've just lost your trade leverage. Gotta sell high on guys. Again no guarantee he comes in & just lights it up. I'd love to have him on the big league roster. But I'd also love more balance all around. Seriously if all's it takes is a 1B & a 3B, you bet your sweet behind I'm asking for BOTH Naylor & Geno. Also you got to wonder if there's guys out there were not hearing about.

It is bizarre. I can't ever remember there being so few guys on the block.

Detroit is also linked to Geno. Yeah, I don't think those formulas would really apply at the deadline. Off season you have a larger field of possible trade partners, the deadline is a select few with more pressure. The interesting aspect is the Dbacks are in position to control the market with both Geno and Naylor.

you're not bringing Ford up if the plan is to trade him over the off season. Isn't that the case? Ive been thinking that could be what drives this thing

Right given the absolute dearth of MLB trade targets I this season I don't thing you can even look at past seasons especially pre WC expansion seasons.

Like I said D Backs prob ask for too much and nothing gets done.
