If your name isn't Ken Griffey Jr, then the HRD gonna mess you up. But, whatever, Cal is smart enough to figure it out.

I looked to see how the other competitors are doing and some of them aren't doing so hot, but others are doing what they normally do. The HRD messing up hitters is one of the big myths of the game, right up there with "protection in the lineup".

JP just went through a nasty slump, and D-Mo's career has slumped over and died. That's just how the game goes.

I think the entire All-star break experience may have been taxing on Cal. The home run derby itself can exacerbate existing injury situations but i don't think that was the case here. I just think he would benefit from getting a week or so off, mentally as well as physically.

We're talking about this season aren't we? It's not a fluke, but on the hand did you expect him to go the season without a slump?

I think this slump can be explained as the impact of mental and/or physical exhaustion and ameliorated by time off. (Just as i type this Cal gets a 2-run single).
