We may be higher on the talent than others.
All the talk recently about how great the talent acquisitions John Schneider has made...someone even posted some stat about how were the most talented team under the age of 24, or some shit. I thought this recent list was interesting. We have a D Lineman and a Corner in the top 10, and no one in the top five.

I think the defense is going to be pretty damn good this year, but I don't know that it makes up for the deficiencies we are going to have on Offense.
I do find it lazy that the above lists does a Top 10 by position, until it gets to the O Line and then lumps them all together. But I think it's pretty safe to say we probably wouldn't have put anyone inside the Top 10 at any of the three O Line positions. The love given to Schneider just simply confuses me. Have we been successful? Yep, but look at this team after Second and Goal and tell me he kept it together. You don't miss the playoffs three out of four years and get an extension...then have people point to what you did five or ten years ago for why!

Who said we will have deficiencies on offense? The Hawks offense will be better balanced this year which will lead to greater productivity. Heck, we will gain more yards than last year just by penalties from DK

Seems commonly agreed the offensive line is a deficiency. I don't think there's a pundit out there that thinks Darnold is an upgrade

I think Cross might just slip into top 10 for LTs. Who knows what Zanek (sorry i can never remember his name) will do but could very end up being a top 10 LG. And when 100% i think Lucas might make some top 10 lists. Olu is prob in the 17-24 range and Bradford/Haynes/Laumea are all bottom 5 types.

I certainly do. what are the qualifications for a pundit?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 12:19 amSeems commonly agreed the offensive line is a deficiency. I don't think there's a pundit out there that thinks Darnold is an upgrade

speaking of pundits, looking at some brady henderson stuff...
There's the reason for the extension timing...JS
There's the reason for the extension timing...JS
I think Jody feels comfortable leaving things in JSs hands, I don't blame her"I had a trigger in my contract after the draft and, at that point, we started talking and we just kept it going," he said. "To have drafted here 16 times, this is where [wife] Traci and I want to be, and we just kept working together. We thank God it worked out."
This, I think terms of JSs reputation, did JS actually improve the team, is this a reload vs a rebuild. And honestly JS has been pretty good at this. You can argue maybe they should go through a rebuild but generally JS has been pretty good at avoiding it."The extension of General Manager John Schneider's contract is a testament to his 15-plus years of football leadership and success," Seahawks chair Jody Allen, who has served as the team's de facto owner since 2018, said in a statement. "I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and a continued strong partnership with head coach Mike Macdonald that is already contributing to our winning culture on and off the field."
Their roster will look dramatically different -- especially on offense -- but the Seahawks aren't intentionally taking a step back in 2025 so that they can take two steps forward in 2026. They return most of their key players from what was a top-10 defense, and they now have ample cap space as well as five draft picks among the top 100 to address their glaring needs in the interior of their offensive line and receiver corps.
The Seahawks have done this before under Schneider. What was viewed on the outside as a rebuild in 2018 -- when they moved on from some of their Legion of Boom stars -- instead resulted in a playoff appearance. The same thing happened in 2022, after they traded quarterback Russell Wilson and cut linebacker Bobby Wagner.
Whether that history repeats itself this season will depend, more than anything, on whether Schneider and Macdonald got their quarterback swap right.

You don't have to take a step back in the NFL. Sometimes it happens because of injuries, but that helped the 49ers build a pretty damn good unit. But you can't swing and miss in the draft, and JS spent a lot of years doing just that. It is also possible to add FA talent on the O Line, and to make that a focus. I mean, did you watch Philly the past few seasons? One of the best Center to play the game retired and they got better. Do you see holes all over their roster? If you are to listen to the JS defenders, if he focuses on the Line, we will be weak somewhere else. I call bullshit. Don't over pay for your own guys because you drafted Tedrick Thompsen and Mike Tyson. Don't waste a second round pick on a boy named Christine. Don't waste a second round pick on an Edge that had a good Senior Bowl week.
No one is saying he didn't do a good job here. But stop talking about the past fifteen years like the Mariners celebrating 1995 and 2001 for two decades, and start looking at why we haven't done much of anything since second and goal. You keep posting this bullshit about fifteen years. Mike Holmgren was pretty good for awhile too, until he wasn't. Should he have received an extension based on the past, or did he get the axe based on what was going on then? There is no valid reason to extend a guy who has lead his team to one playoff appearance in the past four years and the team is a combined 35 and 33 over that span. The last playoff win was in 2019, and that was against a team playing their 4th string QB and we later learned basically had a broken back.
No one said fire him, but extending him knowing all of that? There is ZERO reason to extend him. Just more acceptance of mediocrity and fear of success, IMO. He and his wife wanted to be here. I remember Jim Mora Jr loving the area as well. I guess we should have kept him here? Fucking puff pieces. If JS had sucked for four years, and had one good year? All the local fan base and media would want to talk about is the recent success. But? When the success isn't so recent? Let's focus on the fifteen years in total and ignore the fact that we are a mediocre team, and have been for some time.

The TALKED about it due to the trigger. Talking means they have to give him an extension prior to the season he is already under contract? OK Donn, if you say so.Schneider's previous contract, which he signed in Jan. 2021, ran through the 2027 draft. Schneider explained Wednesday that contract contained a trigger that led to the two sides beginning to talk about a new deal following the 2025 draft.
Why doesn't everyone just put a trigger in their contract that requires their employer to extend them then?
