Most likely. I'm not convinced they are very high on Milroe, though.
I guess we'll know more after the GB game.

From the draft network:

Jalen Milroe has high-level physical tools that, when utilized properly, can result in him becoming a premier playmaker at the quarterback position.”

Strengths:

Explosive runner

Arm strength/velocity

Playmaking ability

Ability to throw on the run

Concerns:

Throwing with anticipation

Accuracy/ball placement

IDing the blitz

Brady Henderson said his form looks fine on his throws it is just that he in inaccurate way too often. Who knows maybe he is Randy Johnson in 1989 and just needs Nolan Ryan to talk to him.

He's got a roster spot because they used a 3rd round pick on him more than anything. It's just a question of whether they would feel comfortable bringing him into a game in what could be a high pressure situation and i'm guessing they'd rather not.
Actually the question is will Milroe be active game day, do you have three qbs active. That will be interesting, the next question being if milroe is active how do they use him. I'm not sure what's the question is here, milroe is obviously 3rd string, Lock is backup.

This guy seems to be talking about having milroe active instead of Lock, I'm not understanding it.
Milroe remains one of the three or four most athletically dynamic players on the roster. Macdonald didn’t even bother hiding the fact that he’d be the guy to for a the one-yard brotherly shove on 3rd/4th down, during the second preseason game.

Additionally, Klint Kubiak is calling the offensive plays, bringing deep familiarity with using Taysom Hill in goal line packages.

This is the path to a potentially unicorn scenario for Seattle, one in which Drew Lock is the clear backup quarterback but it’s Jalen Milroe who suits up on game day.

In this scenario, Lock would remain present with the team as the emergency backup quarterback. He would not be able to play with Milroe healthy, but would trade places the following week to take over quarterbacking duties.

Besides the athleticism, the additional evidence for this is simply that the team hasn’t seemed interested in hiding Milroe. They’re working him hard, exposing him to the whole playbook, putting him in real situations.

The question to me was would they would keep Lock if they felt confident enough in Milroe to run the offense in meaningful games. If Milroe goes off on Saturday i think there's a chance that could happen.

I guess i can see that. They want to have Milroe available for gadget plays or goalline carries but don't want to use up an active roster spot on a 3rd QB.

So i take it they plan on carrying 3 quarterbacks this year.

That's interesting. Why don't you think they are high on him? I don't think he has done anything since the draft to change their opinion of him, and they were high enough on him to use a third round pick. I am excited about him, but only because I watched the raw athleticism he had. I also said all last summer that he wasn't a DeBoer QB, and they would struggle to win with his offense and that style of a QB. That said, doesn't it seem like someone coming from Baltimore would be intrigued after watching what Lamar can do to defenses?

I'm wondering that too. I was thinking, as the backup? They like Lock as backup.

Yeah, I am curious if they won't keep Milroe as the active QB though, and it would be Lock if they needed something longer term? I like Milroe, I'm excited to see if he can morph into a Lamar type guy. Probably too much to ask, but I've seen him do some shit with the football in his hands that is silly.

Macdonald responded coyly to questions Thursday about whether Milroe could see the field regularly this season in situational plays like the one used against the Chiefs.

“It could be (used),” he said. “We’ve already done it, so it’s on tape. It’s important to be able to get those converted in those short-yard situations. It’s a good play right now.”

It helps that Milroe is 6-foot-2 and weighs 216 pounds.

“That’s part of the reason we’re doing it with him,” Macdonald said. “You’ve seen him. He’s a strong person.”

Yep, i think they like Lock enough and are unsure enough on Milroe as a finished product that they keep all 3 active on game days, with Milroe the designated Tush Push guy, and a few other special package plays. And if Milroe progresses enough in practice and next offseason, then they could move on from Lock. or worst case Darnold stinks it up and he gets the door. Not thinking that likely though.

This I believe is what that article I posted was about, they just passed a rule allowing three suited qbs. I'd have to look at how to apply the rule but I think the deal might be Milroe would actually be the backup qb but would be used for gadget plays, Lock would be the emergency 3rd qb if they really needed a qb replacement.
The NFL has moved to avoid another quarterback debacle like the one that plagued the San Francisco 49ers in this past year's NFC Championship Game.
NFL owners approved a bylaw proposal on Monday at the Spring League Meeting allowing clubs to dress a third QB without using an active roster spot on game days, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported, per sources informed of the decision.
The league cited on Monday "integrity of game" as the chief reason for the rule change.
The league previously had a third-quarterback rule in effect from 1991-2010 before doing away with the option. Now it's back.
