His mentality on in that one inning?

“Just rip it,” he said. “It was just, ‘All go. Do what you do well as often as possible and just take it one out at a time.' I don’t know how long I'll go, but whoever's in the box — attack them. Go get strike one and go from there.”

The Mariners believe that Hancock’s velocity could continue climb a few more ticks as he gets more comfortable with the role.

“It does change the dynamic of what you can do when you're pitching at 96-98 mph,” Hollander said. “He's got the two fastballs. He's got a really good changeup. He can land a slider for a strike. How does that all play over an inning or two, as opposed to over five innings? I was really excited about what we saw coming out of his hand the other night. And it just depends on how he bounces back and how he feels.”
yea, a lot of it is in the recovery

They are converting 97-99 Emerson Hancock into the upgrade at BP. I wouldn't mind if they did the conversion not just for then end of season either. If he is max effort guy, he could go FB/change 2 pitch guy with an occasional slider for show. And this year as a starter he maxed at 98.6 MPH, as a BP guy? Does that go up? Worth the shot.
What's your source on this?

This is something I've been wondering about. I've been sort of diving into the pitch data on Baseball Savant the last few weeks, trying to understand pitch shapes a little bit better, and it seems like Hancock's slider could be a plus pitch, and maybe his changeup as well. And we've seen his fastball velocity jump up to 97 at times, so maybe shorter stints in relief could be the key to unlocking that.
I don't remember where I first saw it maybe: Locked-on, Mariner Mojo, Marine Layer, etc but here you go:
