Not really. They didn't need to know how to take off or land and the rest ain't that hard. And security pre 9/11 wasn't that great.

Yes, I remember reading about one flight instructor saying he thought it was interesting how on of his students (who turned out to be one of the terrorists) had no interest in learning how to land ... only how to control speed, elevation, and direction.

Pre 9/11 I typically carried pocket knives on flights. I was astounded to have mine confiscated in the 1990s when I flew to Tokyo on a Japanese airline.

I kind of remember hearing similar. Sounds like total bullshit.

Remember, the terrorists couldn't even catch a direct flight, they had to catch a connecting flight on a tight turn around and one of the bags didn't make it on the flight and in the bag they found a flight instruction manual and a Koran. Wow!

And they identified one of the hijackers based on a passport they found on the ground after two buildings were brought down to rubble.

And they instantly knew who did it, and they instantly started a war!
