Who plays 3rd? Williamson? I realize Suarez has underproduced a bit, but that is a middle of the order bat being lost and not replaced if Williamson is at 3rd. I don't think Polanco is going to play there, is he?

and they have prospects they are going to have to make room for, Emerson, Ford, Montez, Arroyo. Its interesting, Steve Cohen spends $340 mil and the Mets are essentially a dumpster fire at this point, how is that possible

After the games on September 24th...
Magic number = any combination of Mariner Wins and Team X losses that will result in The M's finishing above team X in the standings.
4 games left to play.
Division Clinched!
Teams that cannot finish ahead of the M's: Detroit, Houston, Texas, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Sacramento, Baltimore, Anaheim, Minnesota, Chicago
Cleveland = 1 (will clinch 1st round bye)
Toronto = 6 (for #1 seed)
New York = 6 (for #1 seed)
Boston 2 (doesn't affect anything)

The number 2 seed is virtually banked.
Do we really want the number 1 seed if it comes up? I'd be quite happy staying in the "Top Half of the draw" - I suppose the question is would you prefer to play the Yankees/Red Sox or Blue Jays in 5 in the ALDS?

To me the only reason I'd want the one seed is to have Home field advantage in the ALCS. As far as the ALDS goes I'd much rather be playing Cleveland Houston or Detroit rather than New York Toronto or Boston. Less travel and less hostile environments.

Hadn't thought of HFA in the ALCS. I guess I'd suffer through being the #1 seed! As long as we can beat who ever we get stuck with coming out of that AL East battle in the WC round. I don't see Boston advancing past Toronto or New York though.
Personally? I'd much rather see Toronto in the ALDS and then the Yankees, at home, in the ALCS. But man would I have a sinking de ja vu feeling if the Yankees came into Seattle and took two right away!

I wonder what the crowd at T-Mobile would look like in a M's - Bluejays Playoff series. Hopefully all those BC fans wouldn't be able to get as many tickets as they normally do.
Re: Magic Number Thread.
I am guessing the M's will hype of Ben's swing change and PCL stats and great D and roll him out there on OD. If he fails again they can call up Emerson who will likely be tearing up the PCL in June.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 7:47 pmWho plays 3rd? Williamson? If the goal is to make the ALCS then you want the 2 seed. If the goal is to make the WS you want the 1 seed. My goal is the latter and we are only 1 game back of the 1 seed, two given the tie breakers.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 3:59 pmTo me the only reason I'd want the one seed is to have Home field advantage in the ALCS.
