Flaherty pitched the crucial Game 3 against Cleveland in the Wild Card series (4.2 IP. 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) - was hooked from the game when the Guardians tied the game at 1-1 in the 5th. The Tigers did go on to win of course, 6-3.

Regular season record was 8-15 (Tied-73rd) 4.64 ERA, 188 K (19th) 1.28 WHIP

Oh and our Josh Naylor. The decision to play him in the first two games didn't really pay off - he deserves a couple of days off for the birth of their first child. Maybe his team mates can do him a favour and win the next two so he won't be needed until Sunday for the start of the ALCS. Otherwise - we might need all hands on deck for Friday in Seattle.

Seattle Mariners first baseman Josh Naylor is dealing with a personal matter, and manager Dan Wilson declined to say Monday whether he travelled with the team to Detroit for the next game of the AL Division Series.

"We'll know more tomorrow," Wilson said.

When Polanco went on paternity leave in April, the Mariners were very direct. They publicly stated he was placed on the three-day paternity list and that his wife was having a baby. Dan Wilson said, “Thoughts and prayers are with him. So that's where we're at with that and really hope everything goes smoothly for the Polanco family.”

There is a notable difference in how WIlson has addressed two identical matters - lets really hope that it all goes well for Naylor. I don't want to cause speculation where there isn't anything to worry about, but this sounds more concerning.

Mariners pitching coach Pete Woodworth met with a few reporters after the workout. He provided an update on Bryan Woo, who is working his way back from a mild pectoral strain.

"Every day he's getting better," Woodworth said. "I wish I had a day to say this is when he'll be 100%, but trending is always a good thing."

Woo played catch pregame with pitchers and did some conditioning. The Mariners hope he would available to pitch in the American League Championship Series if they advanced past Detroit.

Nationals are going to need a 1st baseman

Someone who falls into that category is Josh Naylor, the power hitter of the Seattle Mariners who was a headlining deadline acquisition after the Arizona Diamondbacks fell out of contention. And while Alonso is the name many in this fanbase might like to land, Sam Sallick of Federal Baseball laid out a case for why it could be Naylor who is a target of Paul Toboni instead.

"... I am not sure an analytically minded guy like Toboni would splash the cash on a first baseman over 30. Naylor seems more realistic. He is only 28 years old and would be cheaper than Alonso. Naylor is coming off a big year where he hit close to .300 while hitting 20 homers and stealing 30 bases despite his 2nd percentile sprint speed. There will be a lot of suitors for Naylor, but the Nats should be in the market," he wrote.

Yep everyone assumes he will be back because he likes hitting in Seattle but never assume with the org when money is almost always the biggest factor.

Baseball fans gathering downtown Detroit to watch the Detroit Tigers play the Seattle Mariners at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Comerica Park may need to take a blanket and raincoat. The National Weather Forecast shows a cooler high of around 60 degrees by 5 p.m. with more rain possible before 8 p.m. and a low of around 46 degrees.
