How would people feel if that play had gone for 10 yards and a first down? DO we hate the play or the result?
There is a reason speed option isn't used in the NFL. It's not a thing because the defense is too fast, the play gets strung to the sidelines, and the best thing that happens is you don't lose yards.

Tell me how many times you've seen Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Daniel Jones, Drake May, or Josh Allen (any running QB) run a speed option. Again, sometimes no one else does it because it is a dumb thing to do. So is spending the entire 60 minutes he played in the final pre-season game running plays he'll never run because you felt he needed to work on getting his team in and out of the huddle, and running his plays was going to put too much on his plate.

You didn't answer the question. If the play went for 10 yards would you be complaining about the play call? It's really a yes or no answer.

I look at that play over and over trying to like it but man, they sure seem to have had it blown up. Yeah, defenses are too fast.

Terms of plays Milroe ran in preseason, they weren't going to show anything he was going to be running during the season. You aren't giving that away. I think you are making way too much as that being some sort of practice for the regular season. They are running those plays in practice, not preseason games

here is a All 22 look at it, whether it had worked or not it seems like a risky play, prone to a TO
I’ve always been an advocate of giving Milroe some snaps. However, the Seahawks haven’t been doing this ideally. Put him on the run; when he becomes a real threat, the play-action or zone-read will be good in short-yardage situations.

In other words, either put him on the pass or run. The Seahawks are using him here to only throw one pitch. The turnover only created more pressure on the rookie.

PS¹: Sam Darnold’s orbit motion is bizarre.

PS²: It’s great to see Leslie Frazier promptly motivating Milroe after his error at the sideline.

so here is field gulls responding to that same clip I posted, they have a transcription. I am not against playing Milroe but what is the reason? He's had three snaps so far, one a game. It's not enough to give him game experience or does it seem to play to the game situation. What's the reason for bringing him in on a 1st and 10?
Given the timing and lack of productivity through this limited sample of plays, it’s been wondered aloud whether it’s worth having Milroe active on gamedays if this is the extent of his contributions to the offense. For Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald, they’re not pressing pause on the Milroe sub-package portion of the playbook just yet.

“We have more plays for Jalen,” Macdonald said. “It’s a combination of we really like the plays that we have for him, and we’re doing a lot of great things on offense when Sam’s the only quarterback in the game, too, so trying to balance that as well. Part of the reason we’re having success right now on offense is that we’re throwing our fastballs and we’re running our offense. We’re running all of our plays and Jalen’s package is a part of that, and teams have to prepare for it.

“I think that helps us and we’re executing it really well in practice, and they look good in practice. You start getting conservative and not calling stuff because you’re scared, we don’t want to live like that. The play didn’t go our way, could have made a better pitch, could have had a better pitch relationship. We want to take care of the football, that’s number one, but we want to stay aggressive too.”

Milroe has yet to play more than one snap in a game, and there’s not a ton to suggest that will change any time soon. There is, of course, the reminder that Milroe wasn’t practicing at all with the first-team offense throughout training camp and preseason, so this has all come together recently instead of as a full offseason process.

If Klint Kubiak is to continue using Milroe, then the situational play calling has to be fine-tuned. It makes no sense to bring him in on 1st-and-10 and risk something as damaging as that fumble proved to be, but the 3rd-and-1 sneak he ran in preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs would be a much preferable way to use him. At some point, the Seahawks will also have to have Milroe be a threat to throw, otherwise opposing defense have every reason to key in on Jalen as a runner.

Again, it’s just three plays, so perhaps there truly are good moments coming from the Milroe insertions as the season progresses, but thus far it’s only served to disrupt the flow of the offense.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. NO ONE RUNS THAT PLAY. And it's for a very good reason. You didn't answer my questions. Name another time you've seen the play run in the Pros? There might be a very good reason why it doesn't happen, no?

That's like missing an 85 yard FG and afterwards saying "no one would have been mad if it worked!"

Terms of the second and long...Just pulling this out of my ass, I mean every team does it. I'm thinking you are obligated to at least show it occasionally to keep defenses honest.
Two weeks in a row it has resulted in a missed FG. I assume the rest of the league hopes we continue to show it.
Exactly. Teams are going to play pretty soft pass coverage and trying to you getting a 1st down or close to it. Just throw underneath for 8-10 yards for 3rd and Manageable. Then you have a good shot at picking up the 1st down and continuing the drive.

Yep, doesn't even work in college and we lost the Apple cup because of it last season.

Yep, because if they spent sixty minutes of football and let him run some plays he might actually run in a game? The other team was going to know exactly what he was doing on that one play he lined up. I'd say it's more likely now. They didn't move the pocket once when he played that pre-season game. I also believe there were no designed runs. There also was no speed option. But I guess somehow the defense knew it was coming anyway.

What a crock. Why doesn't every team just line up under center and run blast plays for four quarters the entire pre-season? I mean...if you run anything you might actually run you are giving it away! Jeez.
