Way too early offseason
Yes I know I'm early but I figure why not get a jump start & have some fun. I'll go over who's I think we should let walk & who we should bring back.
Walk
-Randy
-Raley
-Geno
-Garver
-Fergie
Would love to find a taker for JP but I don't think he'd bring much back. Definitely some spots need some upgrading for sure. The hard part is gonna be finding a replacement for Geno at 3rd. I just don't trust his bat in the lineup almost as much as I don't trust Randy's defense. Now as far as who to bring in. Here's some potential options both in FA & through trades. Feel free to add in your own here as well.
Additions
-Cody Bellinger
Definite better defensive option in LF over Randy. Bat does play well at T-Mobile too. Wouldn't be a lengthy deal either. Problem is who his agent is. Have we ever had success with a Boras client outside of Cano. Definitely looking at him for upgrade in LF. Here's a clip from everyone's favorite reliable source, Bleacher Report.
It's a small sample size, but Bellinger is a .333/.400/.600 hitter with three doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in 50 plate appearances at T-Mobile Park.
2 possible big time additions
-Junior Caminero
-Maikel Garcia
We all know the Rays don't sign their guys long term & we have a plethora of middle infielders not to mention a few spare pitchers we could part with too. I swear this dudes got superstar written all over him. What are the odds KC gives Garcia a big long term deal. Garcia strikes out half as much as Geno. Better numbers across the board for Garcia. Not as much power but everything else seems to be advantage Garcia.

Raley was injured this year but in 2023 and 2024 he was a 3 WAR player, you bet on him bouncing back because you have him under control until 2029HawkandMariner88 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 09, 2025 10:33 pmYes I know I'm early but I figure why not get a jump start & have some fun. Randy entering his last year before FA and was a 4 WAR player this year
Caminero isn't a free agent until 2031 and Garcia 2029, there is absolutely no chance that either are going to get traded

Randy can't field his position. Why is Raley playing hurt.
Re: Way too early offseason
What do you mean let Randy and Raley walk? Both are under team control. You're not going to a) non-tender Arozarena and let him go for nothing. He has value on the trade market. B) you're not going to non-tender Luke Raley who enters 1st yr arb and will be a very cheap quality backup OF
I do agree with putting both on the block, however. I'm not sure Raley is a player that fares well off the bench. He's been pretty bad as a PH. I look at these guys the Tigers run on their bench, the kind of execution they deliver in PH opps, and it makes me want to find guys that have the temperament to do that.
And Randy just has too much swing and miss and isn't as good a defender as I want on my team. And a decision needs to be made here. Are you going to extend Randy or let him walk after 26? If you're inclined to let him test FA, then maybe trade him now when you can get something of value in return and maybe you hand the LF job to Raley, at least to start the season. You also have Laz Montes on his way for LF. And Canzone of course.
Maybe Canzone edges Raley for LF and you decide to hand DH to Ford?

Add depth to the pen. Yeah I'm just tired of the over swinging & I love Randy believe me I do. But your leadoff guy's gotta set the tone for the rest of the lineup. Get on, swipe second, then move him over to 3rd. It's just tiring seeing these guys come up in clutch situations only to have them strikeout in spectacular fashion. People keep saying teams won't move young guys. How bad does KC need pitching probably, we are stacked to the gills with pitching. I guarantee you offer them 1 of our top infielders to go along with a pitcher or 2 & I guarantee they'd at least listen. Garcia does not strike out, makes hard contact, has better defense & is faster to boot. All things you want in a player. You can never have enough speed on the basepaths. I'm not saying it's possible but at least inquire, wouldn't hurt. Again TB never signs their guys long term.Vogelbomb wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 4:02 amWhat do you mean let Randy and Raley walk? Montes is 20 years old and he hit .213 in AA this year. You think he is making it to the big leagues next season?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 4:20 amand you have Montes scheduled to be promoted next season

The idea that the M's would non-tender a 4 WAR player who hit 27 HR and stole 31 bases is one of the silliest things I have ever seen posted on this forum.

Re: Way too early offseason
for what its worth in terms of his projected schedule that's what it says. He isn't making out of spring training but seems like it would impact your longer term roster decisions depending on where they think he would play. i did actually see an article projecting Bellinger to the Mariners as well as one doing it for Schwarber. As unlikely as those moves would be seems to me they would be less likely with Montes on the horizon.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 10, 2025 5:02 pmMontes is 20 years old and he hit .213 in AA this year. The Bellinger was touted in terms of his ability to play first. It was funny though, it was like a backup plan for not being able to re-sign Naylor. So instead they give Bellinger $180 mil.
