Postmortem: Sea v Jaxonville

Having suffered through that abomination of a professional football game, all I can say is thank you Mariners!

All fans should be getting reimbursed for that. That was just gross on all levels. Yeah, I'll take the win, wins in the NFL are hard to come by, but fans deserve better than what I just witnessed. My God, the ineptness, bumbling, officiating, lack of fundamentals, and something resembling a kicking game.

Let's start with the good. By far the best unit on the field all day was Seattle's defense - the front seven dominated this game in a way we haven't seen in a long time. I think they had seven sacks and they pressured Lawrence all game long. That performance was desperately needed as our secondary or, as I call them these days, "guys plucked from a Home Depot parking lot" blew coverage after coverage after coverage in the first half. Yeah, they're back ups, but this is the NFL, know you f*cking job by this point in your life.

I'l like to give credit to that Jaxonville offense but, frankly, they are not very impressive. I'll give them a resounding 'meh!"

Seattle's offense really lived and died on timely big plays. Obviously the Jaxon bomb was beautiful and the second to Barner basically sealed the game. In between those gems the offense was uneven much of the time and Kubiak insisted on trying to jam the RB's over the left side which the Jaxonville defense did a very good job of shutting down. Good defensive scheming. Jaxon continued to show he's Seattle biggest weapon on offense, but DK Metcalk-level brain farts like the momentum killing personal foul need to stop right fucking now. That killing that drive - you could feel it.

Darnold continues to impress. Not a perfect game, but he bailed out the sputtering offense at times and I found myself wondering if Seattle's QB could be in an MVP trajectory. Yeah, I said it. He's carrying this offense along with Jaxon. They are the new Montana-to-Rice. I still think Seattle needs to acquire another offensive playmaker - I fear JSN getting injured and the offense really stagnating. No one plays all 17 games. Is Percy Harvin avail?

Now the ugly.

This game was mostly unwatchable. How about a few more "lined up in the backfield' penalties. JSN taunting. Why is the scariest play for the seattle defense still third and long? How many blown coverages? What in the literal fuck was the Jaxonville coach doing going for two down 8? Yeah, the kicker missed before, but the odds of them missing twice are low. Unless the kicker was injured or getting ICE'd out of the country, that was a horrible decision. Jaxonville receiver dropped a crucial third down pass late in the game that was, admittedly, right in his hands. Let's add in a few more ticky tack penalties to further slow the game and kill mometum or any possible viewing enjoyment for the fans.

Yeah, it's a win on the road. Yeah, we're tied for first. Yeah that game was bloody fucking awful to sit through. All those things can be true at the same time. A truly unprofessional display for most of the game. That one was hard to watch. Imagine if that was your first experience watching a game to determine if you'd be into football. That Wazzu 'Ole Miss game was more professional than this turd.

But, we got the dub and that's what counts, I suppose.

Thanks to Darnold, the front seven and the Mariners for making Sunday great again. I was not expecting the Mariners to come out and just dominate in all phases of the game. THAT was a thing of beauty. Anyone see Arod predict Seattle to take the series and game one? He's still a douche, but he got that one right.

Side Note: Chardonnay Nation's Fred Warner out for the year. I thought our team was decimated by injury - SF is on another level. If they somehow win the division - Shanahan is coach of the year.

Now we head home for the dreaded home game on Monday Night vs a formidable Houston squad. Seattle used to have "Prime Time" magic in the Carroll years, always winning these games. As bad as we have played at home, would be a real statement if Seattle can hold home court this time and return Lumen Field back to the fans where it belongs.

Go hawks. Go M's.

That turd of a game was hard to watch, agreed. We bailed in the e2nd quarter and watched Red/Zone in its entirety. So sad to see Warner go out - Not- Guy is a straight up chump. Had JSN in a straight up headlock in Game 1- No flag thrown whatsoever.

If the Hawks want the division then all they need to do is step up and put the Rams down, its that simple.

I'm disappointed in you guys. That was one of the greatest punting showcases in NFL history and you failed to appreciate it. 15 punts for 753 yards! A 50.2 yards per punt average!! 5 punts downed inside the 20!!! What the hell is wrong with you?

Yes, of course, for the standings. But as a consumer - the TB loss was a fantastic experience - so good it took the sting out of the loss. This was poor play, poor officiating, too much dumb on display. At least the TB game was a classic. This was forgettable. This was an all veggie frozen pizza - which no one ever asks for. Give me quality play - two teams executing at a high level - the best team prevailing - not two bums flogging each other in a phone booth until one passes out from alcohol poisoning.

One thing is for sure - we have not yet seen this team's ceiling. When they get healthy and that oline continues to gel - Seattle could be a very formidable playoff team. This defense is looking savage.

And if the Jigwires' kicker hadn't been high on meth the final score would have been 20-17 in a game Seattle should have won by at least 13 points.

Yeah, that was definitely a more PC style of football which I know doesn't go over well here. For me it was not a turd or a shit show or whatever, it was an impressive win. The TB was exciting and dramatic, it was also very worrisome. I was concerned about the defense going into this game. I started having doubts, was it actually a paper tiger. I think the situation dictated to a certain extent the style of play. complain about 1-12 on 3rd down but on the other hand, no turnovers to the team that was leading the league in them. Yeah, it was conservative but I feel they did control the tempo of the game. That was more your old fashioned in the trenches, slugging it out type of game. I feel the seahawks took it to the Jags and the Jags didn't have a response, they got out slugged. And I will say too, I continue to be impressed with MM. There have been moments when I have doubted him, last season after the Giants loss, and again this last week. You could tell he was ashamed at how his defense played against TB. When he said he was taking responsibility for it he really meant it. Back with a vengeance...Cross country for a morning kickoff, down three starters in the defensive backfield, and they rag dolled Jacksonville. For me that was a great rebound performance by the defense in tough circumstances, that's what you want to see to get through a NFL season.

There are ongoing issues with the offensive line, Sundell had a crappy game. Bradford has been having crappy games. I was going to say, it makes you wonder how bad Haynes must be but I see now he is on IR

NBC sports, league wide winners and losers, that was a statement
WINNER: Seahawks impress vs. Jaguars
In one of the best matchups of the day on paper, the Seattle Seahawks made a statement.

Sam Darnold and Co. defeated the Jaguars in Jacksonville, 20-12, behind a dominant defensive performance. Trevor Lawrence was sacked seven times, and the Jags rushed for just 3.1 yards per attempt. Darnold had 295 pass yards and two touchdowns -- including a 61-yard bomb to Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

I said that when they hired Kubiak and doubled down by telling us the O Line is good enough. This is going to be a very ugly offense at times. But I'll take ugly if it wins the Division. Everyone knows that I don't agree that it has to be this way, but it's what the organization and this staff want. I thought it was concerning how out of position the DBs were several times. Are they backups? Of course they are, but that would explain being beaten, not having no clue where to be.

Other than that? Not all that concerned about what I saw. Ugly? Sure, but again....who doesn't think that is going to be what our identity on offense basically is? I was concerned that we kind of sat on the lead the first time we got the ball back, but maybe they learned their lesson finally...that deep ball to Barner was a dagger.
