Hopefully Blowgun Gilbert has lots of poison-tipped darts at his disposal to take out ye Savage and the Bluejays.

so Yesavage, he would be characterized as pretty much a sensation? Drafted last year and pitching in the ALCS? Apparently he can pitch, he beat the Yankees in the ALDS. I would think hitters could be at a disadvantage against him not being familiar with him. He's not going to go deep, so it comes down to BPs again?

The starter for the Blue Jays began the season in low A ball and was promoted 4 times this season. Has only pitched 14 innings for Toronto hand has a 1.43 WHIP

and he just got done dominating the Yankees...He has an unusually high release point. I guess the Yankees said it was hard to pick up.

here is an analysis

I have a hunch we are the more talented team overall.
The Blue Jays just like all high powered offenses faced Yankees pitching and capitalized but not against our boys! They got shut down and didn't know what to do.

Today will reveal many things.
If Logan goes six solid again and the Blue Jays still cannot hit...I think we got em.
They have yet to face a Kirby, Castillo, or Woo in our house.

Logan gets ruffed up today and our bats have got to come alive at some point in order to win.
Yesterday was a typical Mariners classic.
Fantastic starting pitching thru 6, low scoring, bullpen closes it out.
So proud of Miller. Cal calmed him down and he went right after them.

The Logan / Cal tandom is facinating. Let's see how they respond to trouble.
Logan keeps the ball down we've got a good chance.

Still waiting on the bats of Geno, Randy, and Naylor to get going.
Geno with the double yesterday is promising.
Randy did all the intangibles to get himself into the game.
That catch! The steal! I dig that. Just wish he didn't take so many good pitches.
Naylor is too good to be this quiet. He can carry a team too if he gets hot.

I don't even include Julio or JP on my wishlist at this point.
Whatever contributions they add I consider a bonus / above par.
Watching JP pull the ball for groundouts and Julio swinging at garbage down and away is just old and predictable.
Canzone had some horrible at bats. What about starting Rivas at DH???

MLB Central compare Yesavage release point to Verlander. Over 40 games against Verlander 3.05 ERA with better success his last few years with Houston. Interesting comparison Of course Verlander didn’t throw a splitter

Gilbert has a 5.24 ERA against BJ which isnt a good sign

verlander comp
Yesavage gets to that release point with an even higher arm angle than Verlander (55 degrees). His high release and true over-the-top delivery create a ton of rise on his fastball. And the rising fastball is, of course, the pitch Verlander is famous for.

Yesavage's four-seamer rises about an inch more than Verlander's these days. But they're the same style of fastball.

Yesavage generates 19.5 inches of induced vertical break on his fastball. That's how much it "rises" based the way he releases and spins the baseball, removing the effects of gravity, which naturally drags all pitches down. Verlander was at 18.6 inches of induced rise in 2025.

More "rise" means the pitch drops less than the hitter expects, making them more likely to swing and miss, particularly up in the zone. And Yesavage has a top-five rising fastball among starting pitchers.

Yesavage's fastball might profile like Verlander's, but the way he uses it is different. Yesavage wants his rising heater to set up his wipeout splitter for the K. The four-seamer comes from the sky and stays in the sky; the splitter comes from the sky and plummets to earth.

For Yesavage, the splitter is his No. 1 strikeout pitch by far. For Verlander at his peak, the rising fastball is what he used most to blow hitters away, and then he spun his slider and curve off of it.

Sounds like Yesavage will be a handful. We can hope for two things: he loses command of his pitches during the game, and/or we drive the pitch count up early to force blue jays into their bullpen. If we get to their bullpen early, we win.
