"Let's see, Walker is averaging almost 5 yards per carry, Charbonnet about 2 1/2...let's give most of the carries to Charbonnet" - Klint Kubiak, literally
It's not just Kubiak. I thought the usage was very odd last year as well. Charbonnet is the more traditional between the tackles guy, and Walker is a home run hitter, so the first couple of years they were together we made Charbonnet the third down back and had Walker run dive play after dive play. It has always confused me.

Running plays into the line - even though they may not be successful - are necessary if you want play action to work. Sometimes the play is a bust, sometimes the back breaks it - but if you want play action to have any chance, you have to keep defenses honest and get those linebackers to bite and attack the LOS thinking it's a run play - if you aren't giving them that look and then actually running it - play action means nothing. Sometimes plays are used as a bit of theater to set up something else.

MM taking the blame for the too many men penalty, setting up that goal line stand on the one
“At that point you’re in goal-line situation on the one,” Macdonald said. “You’ve got to match them big and that’s what we did. We didn’t even align right in that play, frankly. I think Ernest made a tremendous play to stop them. Just a relentless mindset the guys had. That was an awesome play. That’s what they call picking up the coach.”

Lost to a rural Indiana Meth hub basketball school. lol Who is next to knock them off, Duke or Gonzaga??? Yes perfect 5 for 5 weekend!
I know that you are mostly joking, but Indiana destroyed us last year. And under Cignetti? They have lost two games....at Ohio State and at Notre Dame in the playoffs.
Yeah just an incredible transformation. Usually bad football programs are bad for decades an only hope for a .500 season once or twice every 20 years. Amazing.

Sure but why not have Charb be the sacrificial lamb and run it up the gut and head but our O Linemen's assess and give Walker the ball in space.

I don't know the answer to that. To be fair, been laughing at "rural Indiana Meth hub basketball school" for the last couiple days. Trying to picture the helmet and the logo. Come to "RIHM" - where every play is a "RIHM job." Someone please ask CHATGBT to create their logo on a helmet.

"Pucker Up - we're headed to RIHM-U"

All the talk about Naylor becoming a father, how about Byron Murphy II. Had a kid couple days ago, three months premature, in intensive care but I guess OK. And the game he had, unbelievable. I think I'd be a mess dealing with something like that, really respect his professionalism, focus. I'm really liking the players we have now. Seems like a bunch of leaders. Not only have they improved the talent but the character with some of the moves last couple years, trades and draft picks, FA signings

Look at the fluky way our two losses ended, not that we would have necessarily beaten Tampa Bay, but we had San Fran on the ropes before Lucas' butt knocked the ball out of Darnold's hand.
