I dunno. Maybe I had to grow up with it to appreciate it. Maybe not. Games that can end in a 0-0 tie seem pointless to me.

In the words of Edmund Blackadder, it is the biggest waste of time since "How to Speak French" was translated into French.

The Simpsons had it all right: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJu2qSJ9zno
Yours was better to be fair - I also applaud the citation of Blackadder.

Our takedowns of the US sport often focus on the relentless adverts and clock-stopping

Sport. eh? All of it is nonsense. That's why we love it.

A legendary soccer manager, Bill Shankly once said, "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

Haha!! Well played.

I guess there's a reason I can only watch soccer after 5 pints. Anything less and I'd actually have to pay attention.

Not sure if you have seen Apple TV's "Ted Lasso" or not. It was a decidedly American perspective on soccer, but it still treated the fans of both the show and soccer with some degree of respect and heart. We watched all 3 seasons and quite liked it.

Yeah. After dismissing it at first, Ted Lasso is excellent. How they transform from what looks like a skit at each country's stereotypes into a comedy where you care about every character is down to brilliant casting and writing. Sudeikis and Goldstein are the obvious stand-outs but Hannah Waddingham has quickly transformed into a national treasure over here with her performance as the owner.

Hope they don't spoil the legacy with season 4.

Yamamoto is a stud. Imagine if the Mariners had been able (or willing) to sign him. Almost would have guaranteed a WS appearance and a likely victory.

No kidding, it's like they're not even trying to sign Japanese players and I wonder if it's because of Ichiro not wanting his legacy to be topped. These guys, especially Ohtani when he first came over, should be practically in our pockets and yet we're never even in the conversation.

And Jerry went with Kikuchi 5 minutes into the rebuild instead before banning Japanese players from the org.

Moto was never going to consider anybody except teaming with S.O. to form a super team.

Thanks for not letting that chump Schneider celebrate a WSC.

That is the strangest thing. Kik would throw 97-98 from the left side with plenty of bendy pitches and Safe/TMob selects LH as favored ad yet he had what? 1 decent 1/2 season in 2021 his 1st 15 starts he tossed a 3.18 ERA. But since then his 150 ERA post trade Astros time pitched them in and us out of the playoffs. In his post-Seattle career he has been at least a 100 ERA plus guy each year.

That may have been the best game 7 in WS history.

That is a BS take Bro. They went all-out for Ohtani and collected the biggest IFA pot. They did the big show, and all along he had his sight set on some relationship with LAA. Mike Trout was in his prime but LAA basically wasted the primes of two 1st ballot guys at once. You could blame Pujols and Rendon or pitching or both
