Rebuilding? Remember, the NFL advanced metrics guys had the raiders off season rated higher than the seahawks, points added. Their record was supposed to be better
Look, I understand you have a strange mancrush on Pete, so will admit that I am positive that you spent way more time scouring the internet for positive Pete Carroll news this offseason. But do you actually remember guys that know football gushing about this move, and what it would mean to the Raiders? Because I don't. I actually think this season is basically exactly what most expected. You don't put a guy that one time admitted they spent more time preparing to protest the anthem than they did the game in charge of millionaire's living in Vegas!

Everything I have ever said about Pete is that he knows one way and refuses to adapt. When he got here? He knew a TON about the guys coming out of college and the young guys in the NFL that had recently been in college. That is why we built such a young and hungry team. He surrounds himself with what he knows. Well? Now he knows Geno, Tyler and Jamal. At what point during this season have they looked like a functional NFL team? It is no different than how he finished here, he just had more talent here. Jeanty is a stud, I get that, but if anyone should have understood the sins of trying to play an NFL game with a dogshit O Line? It should have been Pete. Jeanty wasn't a luxury they had, not if they wanted to improve this year.
Nothing to do with a man crush. The question was why did they hire PC for a rebuild, they didnt. The Raiders preseason was the opposite of a rebuild. And on top of it, the "experts" were generally pretty positive about it, at least in relation to the seahawks off season. I can try and find the article again, grading the off season in terms of expected points added had the Raiders higher than the seahawks. Basically Smith was going to be more successful than Darnold. Really doesn't have anything to do with kissing Pete's ass.

One article pretending the Raiders were going to contend this year isn't going to change the narative. No one that understands the game expected them to compete.

Below were the Super Bowl Odds coming into the season.
Super Bowl LX odds
Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles: +700

Kansas City Chiefs: +800

Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers: 12-1

Washington Commanders: 18-1

Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers: 20-1

Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings: 25-1

Los Angeles Chargers: 28-1

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 30-1

Houston Texans: 35-1

Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers: 40-1

Arizona Cardinals: 50-1

Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks: 60-1

Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots: 80-1

Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders: 100-1

Carolina Panthers: 150-1

New York Giants, New York Jets, Tennessee Titans: 200-1

Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints: 300-1
So, they were believed to be better than Carolina, the two New York teams, the Titans, Browns and Saints....and in your eyes, THAT meant they were going to compete?

They were asking the same thing on national sports radio live Vegas would hire the oldest coach in the history of the NFL for a rebuild.

I guess that make MM just a bit better of a HC than PC. lol
I really wasn't thinking about Pete one way or the other. John Spytek is the GM, he hired Pete to get to the playoffs, not to do a rebuild. That was my point.

And someone could hire me to build a nuclear reactor, doesn't mean it'll happen.

Imagine the shock we must all have that the Raiders made a bad hire! Go to the Playoffs, Jesus Lord.

If that was the expectation? He better live to 90.

I'm saying for whatever wacko reasons John Spytek had he didn't hire Pete to do a rebuild, that's it. I am not going to defend why he did it, it was his decision, And on top of that, for as wacko as it seems, pundits generally seemed to go along with it at the time.

And you are correct. Why hire Pete when the team is in need of a rebuild, looking back it doesn't make sense. That was pointed out at the time. You don't hire a 73.year old coach to rebuild. That's my point, nobody was looking at it as a rebuild

We can blame Pete for a lot of stuff but we can't blame him for hiring himself can we? This is the MO of the Raiders. It just seems interesting to me how positive pundits seemed to be with it at the time
No matter who’s calling the shots, Carroll finds himself in a place familiar to most Raiders first-year coaches. The club has hired 11 coaches (not including interims) since 2004, and eight have gone 2-6 or worse in their first eight games.

That includes the other three most recent hires — Antonio Pierce last season, Josh McDaniels in 2022 and Jon Gruden in 2018.

It’s a track record that shows the approach to constantly think about winning immediately hasn’t worked. The Raiders have never undergone a true rebuild, and owner Mark Davis has talked many times about how hungry he is to win, a major reason he brought in Tom Brady as a minority owner.

It's Gruden's fault the Raiders are so bad. If he hadn't said something in an e-mail around the turn of the century, he would still be their coach.

It wasn't saying it, it was the NFL leaking it. They are still litigating that thing
