The Captain of all off season plans.
Everyone else is doing it, so here is my shot.
First of all I am operating under the assumption that there will be a bit of a payroll bump but not huge. This pretty much precludes massive free agent acquisitions of guys making 20-30 Million a year. Spotrac has the adjusted 2025 Payroll for the M's including the deadline acquisitions at $165.59 Million. I allowed myself around a 10% increase to 180 Million. If nobody else increases payroll that would move the M's from 15th to 13th in Baseball.
Trade 1
George Kirby and Michael Arroyo for Jarren Duran (BTV Value 79.1 – 73.1 in favor of Boston)
Duran put u a 4.7 WAR and a 114 OPS + in 2025. He has 3 years of control his 2026 Salary will be $7.7 Mil
Trade 2
Tai Peete, Korbyn Dickerson and Michael Morales for Yandy Diaz and Pete Fairbanks (BTV Value 10.3 - 7.5 in favor of Tampa)
Diaz put up a 3.4 WAR and a 136 OPS+ in 2025. He has 1 year year at $12 Mil with a $10 Mil club option for 27
Fairbanks put up a 1.2 WAR with a 2.83 ERA out of the pen in 2025. He has 1 year of control at $12.5 Mil
Trade 3

Donovan put up a 2.7 WAR and a 119 OPS+ in 2025. He is under control for 2 years expected arbitration number in 2026 $5.75 Mil

Looks great but Jerry isn't going to pay 2 relievers $21M.

Yes he has but hasn't since the start of the rebuild. All the ones that he signed sucked so he switched to the Pile mode that worked out for a while.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 05, 2025 9:24 pmHe's spent big on Relievers before. Scrabble comes to mind.

The lineup is A-OK.
But that rotation severely weakened.
And you forgot about Luke the Nuke Raley

And unless Ben’s boost in AAA down the stretch translates to MLB level and he is a legit corner bat I would have Polo @ 2B, Donavan at 3B and Yandy and Luke sharing most of the AB’s at 1B and DH

Polo can get some run at 2b but I am not convinced he can play there full time. Donovan would be an ideal pickup because his positional flexibility allows you to move him around and make room for Any of the young guys who might push their way to the big league level. I think Raley's days with the team are numbered. I suspect they try to move him.
On The rotation, I really think that one of the young guys will make a push to claim a spot in the rotation this year. Anderson could be next years Trey Yesavage. I also think that better luck with health will see improvement from Gilbert and Miller.

I can only assume my off season plan is getting less responses because nobody can find anything to disagree with right?

Theres a offer for Duran, I didn't think Cronenworth had much valueIf the Padres are serious about acquiring Duran, they are going to have to make a significant trade offer to the Red Sox. The belief here is that the Padres will have to send 2nd baseman Jake Cronenworth and one of the team's strong relief pitchers to the Red Sox to make it happen
