I realize OPS wasn't really a thing back then but he led the League 10 times in OPS and only won 2 MVPs.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 13, 2025 7:36 pmA big deal gets made out of that but in 1941 Williams had a 10.4 WAR while DiMaggio had a 9.3, so they were actually close. Williams' surface stats look better but DiMaggio played his home games in a park where it was 402 to straightaway left field and about 460 to left-center field. Put DiMaggio in Boston in 1941 and his numbers jump off the page.
Where Williams got ripped off was in 1947 when he had a WAR of 9.5 but lost to DiMaggio's 4.7

Re: MVP thread
Here is an interesting way to think about it. If Cal Raleigh had been traded for Aaron Judge on opening Day and Cal had put up these exact same numbers for the Yankees while Judge put up the his exact same numbers for the M's, Which team do you think would have benefited more.
I think the Yankees probably win 5 more games and the M's probably lose 5 more games.
Re: MVP thread
Cal deserves it, by virtue of his being a catcher.

I thought they would just release the names at 7pm, like a SMS message. Shows how simple minded I am
Re: MVP thread
Apparently catchers aren't valued as much as they were in the 1950s when Yogi Berra and Roy Campanella each won three MVP awards without leading a hitting category.
