Dumping salary is a strawman, I never said it. I said dipoto would be motivated to move Castillo's contract. I agree on dropping it, I don't understand why you are so committed to hanging on to Castillo in the first place

I agree that it could make sense to move on from Castillo's salary if there is an opportunity to do so. It's 24m in 2026 and 2027 plus an option for 2028 at 25m that will vest automatically if he stays healthy. Those aren't prohibitive numbers but the prudent move might be to shift that risk over to another team if you can.

His year in Wrigley did him no favors. I don't think he will get the $40/ year he would have last year at this point.

Yeah, I wasn't thinking in terms of needing to dump salary but rather an opportunity to apply it someplace else. Actually what it would be is a way to utilize prospects. Say you traded Castillo and then traded for Gore it's cost you prospects to pick up that salary relief. You could then use it to add another bat. Or the more cynical view would be paying for Naylors contract.

I would trade for Otani and judge as well. Just as likely as signing Tucker

Trading Castillo is a salary dump to create payroll flexibility. He says they don't need to do that. You are betting they still do it . I don't give a f*** if they trade Castillo or not. Why are you so committed to bad faith arguments? In the other post you say we just need to listen to what he says but for some reason because what he said about payroll flexibility blows up your prediction you have massive cognitive dissonance and try to twist everything with ridiculous mental gymnastics and semantics.

It's not a question of being dissapointed, I don't have expectations to begin with. I am happy they signed Naylor but I'm not particularly impressed by it. It's what the needed to do and they did it, similar to needing to sign Castillo, they got it done. Now if they would truly get out of their comfort zone by say trading for Katel Marte or signing Kyle schwarber then I'd be impressed. For dipoto to claim that signing was getting out of their comfort zone is comical. The dodgers spent nearly that much on a reliever for Christ's sake. Reminds me of the 60ies crack... Been down so long it looks like up to me ...

I totally agree that signing a first baseman to a free agent contract shouldn't be out of their comfort zone that is preposterous

Freddy Peralta would be an awesome pick up if he's actually available.

They should trade for Freddy Peralta and Ketel Marte.

Then take a chance on Yoan Moncada for 3B. His numbers were pretty decent when he was on the field. We have backups.
