The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason
Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason
Was anybody else shocked that Schwarber got 5/150M?
I was thinking that oldster that came up with 3X 28M may have been a bit light but I thought 4 X 25M would have won the day. He is in his mid 30’s he is basically a DH only. I mean FFS.

Anderson might be ready to go out of STdesbcoach wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 4:37 amProblem is we take Marte and salary then who takes Millers spot? This dude needs to be in our lineup. Can we get by with a Hancock, Evans type package or are they gonna want something better.

Hollander and Jerry said $166M is the "starting point" for payroll.desbcoach wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 4:37 amProblem is we take Marte and salary then who takes Millers spot? Right now they're at $145M.
Marte = $16M. $145M + $16M = $161M -$2.5M from Miller = $159ish M.
They could easily go out and sign some 5th starter for like 1-year $10M or so and be right there with payroll. That pitcher would be a bridge to Anderson.

Ideology behind it is either Sloan or Anderson or both should be ready to go by mid-season. Doubt they have Anderson not pitch any AA or AAA ball but I guess its possible. Thinking is you go with Hancock or Evans for 2-3 months or sign a journeyman arm to hold the fort till then.

Anderson might require 3-4 months at most I would think so looking around late July, early August.

If the M's were to trade a starter...
John Means would be an interesting buy-low option on a 1-year deal if he's back to healthy.
When he's actually on the mound he's elite.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. But Miller is so much better than either of those two, especially when he is on.Lamda wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 5:30 amIdeology behind it is either Sloan or Anderson or both should be ready to go by mid-season. Sloan is 19 years old and got rocked in Everett but I'm sure he will be ready to face MLB hitters by mid season. lol

Miller posted a -.8 WAR last year. Obviously that was an injury plagued down year and you would expect him to do much better this year but my thought is if you were able to win the division with that kind of performance from him last year, you can probably afford to cobble together the fifth spot in the rotation and not expect much overall drop off from last years overall pitching staff performance.
