Ridiculous.
The difference is money and control.

Strahm is owed $7.5M in '26 and is a F/A in '27.
Yes I know. BTV takes all of that into account.
Strahm has a long track record and had a far superior season than Ferrer and he went for half of what he should have while Jerry pays double Ferrers estimated worth. I realize that BTV isn't fool proof but it at least gives a little bit of a guage of where things should be at the Ferrer deal isn't even remotely in the ballpark.

For another perspective ...

This year Matt Strahm posted 1.5 fWAR in 62.1 innings and is projected to post 0.7 WAR in 66 innings next year.

This year Jose A. Ferrer posted 1.4 fWAR in 76.1 innings and is projected to post 0.7 WAR in 70 innings next year.

FanGraphs projects Harry Ford with 0.8 WAR in 63 games:

FanGraphs columnist Dan Szymborski has released his preliminary ZiPS projections for the Mariners:

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2026-zips-p ... -mariners/

A caption reads: There's a high probability the Mariners enter 2026 with the most projected wins in the American League, at least according to ZiPS.

Passan is reporting another trade.
[Passan] Trade news: The Baltimore Orioles are acquiring right-hander Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays for outfielder Slater de Brun, catcher Caden Bodine, right-hander Michael Forret, outfielder Austin Overn as well as a Competitive Balance Round A pick, sources tell ESPN.
This is a bit of a bulk trade by the Orioles to bring in Shane Baz, but there are some interesting pieces here.

Jerry better be cooking some big shit man.

I swear to God if I'm watching Cole Young and Ben Williamson play meaningful baseball to start off '26 I might not be watching for long.

FWIW Steamer600, which assumes 600 plate appearances for each position player, projects Cole Young with a 2026 WAR of 2.4 and Ben Williamson with a 2026 WAR of 1.9:
