Cap space for 2026

Post by D-train » Fri Dec 26, 2025 6:11 pm

Future is bright. Might actually sign a A list FA.
4 Teams in very good position to be very competitive in the free agent market and be very dangerous next year:

Los Angeles Rams ($93,706,307)
Seattle Seahawks ($83,427,767)
San Francisco 49ers ($66,740,552)
New England Patriots ($61,709,662)

I doubt they are looking at a-list free agents in so much as they are looking to extend several key pieces that are going to eat up a lot of that cap space. The team is pretty loaded - the draft should be able to shore up the weak spots like interior oline - which has been steadily improving - or a mauler LB. Another play maker on offense - RB/TE/WR could be had. Not sure if they will extend Walker - I can't see them giving him a big deal as he has been so unimpressive for such long stretches, despite being an athletic freak. Loive to extend him for 2-3 years - but at a price. Can't give him 10 mill a year - the productivity just hasn't been there. They need to keep that secondary together and it's gonna be expensive.

So the Rams have more cap space AND the Falcons' 1st round pick in addition to their own and the 49ers have their usual trove of compensatory picks (two 4th rounders, one 5th) along with a fair amount of cap space so it's hard to see those teams falling off at all.

How do the Rams manage it, did Stafford agree to play for free?

Honestly who are you looking to extend outside of JSN. The only A-List FA I'd consider at this point is Tyler Lindenbaum from Baltimore. I guess Spoon & JLove on the backend maybe, Jones probably too. Where do you throw in Mafe & DHall. Just not a ton of guys worthy of big money so I'd say definitely go after an A-List FA for sure. Mac knows Lindenbaum do from his time with the Ravens. Who am I missing though?

Most of that cap space will be eaten up extending or replacing guys. Walker, Shaheed, Mafe, Bryant, Woolen and Jobe are all free agents. They aren't pro bowlers but they are all significant contributors. You're not going to be able to replace them all in the draft so its going to take a significant amount of coin just to replicate those guys production.

I believe Brock said today those six FAs are all in the top 32 of some list of FAs that was just released.

I think they can let Walker walk, would like them to resign Shaheed, Bryant and Mafe. I am kind of iffy on the other two. Woolen has turned things around, but I think someone is going to over pay for his early production and his body type.

I was thinking they could let Walker walk but their aint jack in the draft. The dude from Notre Dame is the only one worth his salt and he'll be gone before the Hawks draft. The top Running Back in FA is Breece Hall and I am not even sure he is much of an upgrade.

Yeah, I looked at the draft, and it's not great. Maybe an upgrade on the interior O Line, and another back to go with Chardonnet would be enough.

two names for you: Joe and Burrow.

or two more: Maxx and Crosby.

Other words are "would have to trade our entire draft class" or "No Trade Clause".

Joe Burrow's contract extension runs through the 2029 NFL season, a five-year, $275 million deal he signed in September 2023, making him a Bengal through that year, with potential void years following, and includes a no-trade clause through 2029.

Crosby played 15 games, had 10 sacks and 29 pressures. It would also take a pretty big package to get him. I'm not sure we need to trade that much away for a guy like Crosby. The Defense is pretty damn good as is.
