Might be a little early...
The Seattle SuperSonics are targeted to return to the NBA as an expansion team for the 2028-29 season. FollowingNBA Board of Governors meetings on March 25, 2026, the league began the formal expansion process for Seattle and Las Vegas, with new franchises expected to begin play in the fall of 2028.

Re: OT: Supersonics
Supersonics is the coolest franchise name in the whole history of any of the major leagues. Will be great to see them return - but this isn't guaranteed. Just a proposal and knowing the NBA, they are targeting a $10 billion expansion fee. It might even be a play to get another city to cough up $20 million - don't forget the fee is basically split amongst the current 30 teams - so $20 billion would be $666 million each.
The current teams want whoever pays the biggest fee to get the new team(s)

Super Sonics are gone forever. The new forum should be called new NBA team in Seattle after only 20 years of fucking around by Ghouls named Stern and Silver.

I think we have some of the best sports teams names in Seattle with Mariners, Sonics, and Seahawks.mostonmike wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2026 8:51 pmSupersonics is the coolest franchise name in the whole history of any of the major leagues. Not guarantee but probably 95% chance. Owners voted unanimously to start the bidding process for Vegas and Seattle only.mostonmike wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2026 8:51 pmSupersonics is the coolest franchise name in the whole history of any of the major leagues. Kraken ownership is apparently all positioned. Vegas has multiple ownership groups that will try to outbid each other.
The bids will come in and they'll get approved. Expansion draft after 2027-2028 season. First Supersonics game Fall of 2028.

OKC is reportedly going to give the history back. 1979 Championship banner will go up in Seattle. All historical statistics will go back to Seattle.

It's gonna be insane.
I can't wait for the OKC @ Seattle matchups so the OKC fans can see what "Seattle didn't support their team" was really all about.
