Supersonic refers to the speed of an object through the atmosphere, doesn't have to be an airplane or involve burning fuel, could be a meteor. I think there's more irony with naming them the supersonics after Boeing left town

LOL You are so desperate to be a contrarian you don't even take 5 seconds to check the facts. Boeing left for Chicago one week before 9/11/2001, 34 YEARS after to Sonics came into existence.

I think he means going back to that name, although it's hard to tell. Perhaps he has a suggestion for a different name.

How about the Seattle Indians?

yeah, don't understand what you're getting at. I'm saying the name derived as a tribute to the local jet industry conceived by the Boeing company. Seems antiquated to me these days particularly since Boeing left town, nothing to do with dates

They also had dropped the super, they had become more the sonics didn't they? Would they be the Supersonics or the Sonics?

Yeah, the expansion franchise isn't going to be the supersonics until the purchasers decide to name them that.
That was pointed out earlier
While we don't know with certainty that the new Seattle franchise will be named the SuperSonics, it's hard to find any reason why they wouldn't gladly adopt that name and franchise history. We are in an era of nostalgia, especially for the 90s, and new ownership in Seattle will be gifted a golden goose in the form of bringing back Sonics gear and retro logos -- something rarely afforded to an expansion franchise

I can remember back when they left debating using a new name for an expansion franchise. But that was before all the nostalgia set in. Seriously in my mind, being able to reintroduce it 20 years later is a goldmine marketing opportunity

Ok I get it now. It is NOW antiquated but if you change the name fans of the other team will go ballistic.

This isn't about some old supersonic fans in Seattle, I think that's the disconnect. Nobody gives a shit about them. This is about jersey sales not only around the country but the rest of the world. It's not about going ballistic if you don't do it, it's selling them a jersey if you do. That's why they really need to go full bore retro, like the sonics stepped out of a time capsule. I had pictures of jeepneys here with the sonic logo. It be like being able to grab the Coca-Cola logo and sticking it on your product. That's what you are speculating about if you're bidding on the franchise, what's that logo worth
