We all remember Dustin Ackley, he hit .303 in Tacoma in 2010, scouts were saying he was the best hitter they had ever seen!
Can’t miss said his college coach.
And his best season was his first, when he hit seven triples, spraying line drives all over the place, baseball fans were excited all over Seattle.
Emerson and the roster
Re: Emerson and the roster
I still think that hyper Jerry screwed him up, switching him from position to position, never letting him get comfortable.

Re: Emerson and the roster
He had a hole in his swing that took ML pitchers and the sophisticated scouting system of the majors to finely figure out by his second season, and once they did he was screwed. In the game of adjustments he ended up out adjusted. It was basically as I understand it the upper part of the strike zone

That’s why these long term contracts for guys who’ve proven nothing, are crazy.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 4:12 pmHe had a hole in his swing that took ML pitchers and the sophisticated scouting system of the majors to finely figure out by his second season, and once they did he was screwed. Re: Emerson and the roster
Ackley was never that type of player to begin with. He was more a product of what was a very mediocre draft. He was a college player, that is older than Emerson, he was coming off TJ surgery and didn't offer much defense. Make Ackley three years younger, give him the defense to play SS and even with the disappointing offense he'd have had a lot higher floor.Hy Feiber wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 5:42 pmThat’s why these long term contracts for guys who’ve proven nothing, are crazy.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2026 4:12 pmHe had a hole in his swing that took ML pitchers and the sophisticated scouting system of the majors to finely figure out by his second season, and once they did he was screwed. I was thinking a comp for the Emerson contact might be the money being handed out with the international FAs. Giving a 20 year old that's been developing in your system a $100 mil contract is similar to giving a 14 year old in the DR $5 mil that barely played organized baseball. It's kinda similar projections isn't it
