Fryer the Padres in Petco Park GT - Tues., March 14 @ 6:40pm
Re: Fryer the Padres in Petco Park GT - Tues., March 14 @ 6:40pm
I thought about titling my game thread, "Well, there goes my streak GT". Guess I should have. Might have caused a reverse jinx.

I see JP is going to do the thing again where he has a .400 OBP but a .200 slug.

It's too late to change. What you see is what you get.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 4:04 amI see JP is going to do the thing again where he has a .400 OBP but a .200 slug.

A 436 obp, I hadn't noticed that, I'll take that, how does he even manage that? So now we want him swinging harder?Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 4:04 amI see JP is going to do the thing again where he has a .400 OBP but a .200 slug.

It's not what we want him to do... it's what he's going to do.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 4:27 amA 436 obp, I hadn't noticed that, I'll take that, how does he even manage that? He did the same exact thing last year.
He was 5th in baseball through April last year with a .423 OBP... he then finished the year May-October 59th in OBP.
If he could maintain a .400 OBP and .300 slug, nobody would bitch. Issue is, he's going to start swinging for the fences soon... specially cause it's a contract year.

Well I'm not condemning him for a season he hasn't had yet. I really don't get the JP hate. He's a SS, he ran a. 109 ops+ last season and has that now. He's a better than average SS, he put up 3.8 war last season. I see it as a successful trade and extension. They are positioned now to replace him. He isn't great but he's a long way from being a bust

Well sure... they got him for sack of turnips b/c he was a failed prospect and he's turned into an OK starter.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 4:50 amWell I'm not condemning him for a season he hasn't had yet. Issue with JP isn't how he's produced... it's the respect he believes he's owed that does not match his production. If he was humble and played more team baseball rather than constantly chasing what he isn't... he wouldn't get hate.

He needs to be more humble? He's a clubhouse leader, he's clutch and he's a bargain. But we'll still find things to complain about, that's the beauty of this forum lol

Yes, he does.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 5:04 amHe needs to be more humble? He's a clubhouse leader, he's clutch and he's a bargain. But we'll still find things to complain about, that's the beauty of this forum lol
Humility = playing baseball within your limits and toward your skills.
Example: He's a nearly career .400 hitter with the bases loaded. Why? Because for some reason he decides to become a more focused, situational hitter with something on the line vs at bats that have less meaning. The other night, he took a pitch on the outer half and smashed a liner the opposite way through the shift... which should be his focus on 100% of at bats.
It tells you what he'd be capable of if he'd just give up trying to swing for the fences. But half the time he's trying to hit the ball 500 feet as a guy who is never going to hit more than 15 homers in a season.
He'd be a real asset with the bat in his hands if he just led a contact-focused approach. He could learn a thing or 2 from Brendan Donovan.
And the M's signing Colt Emerson to an extension with the plans to make him a short stop should tell you what the organization thinks about him as a leader and player...

This series has us playing the PADRES and their BP.
Morejon destroys lefties. We have a lefty centric line up.
We PH for Canzone who does not need to be pinch hit for with a journeyman we just brought up. After the first pitch near 100 he mouthed “Wow!”.
2 pitches later = K
WTF.
I said at the last trade deadline we needed to add at least 2 bats and 1 premium BP part. They knew this to and were in on J. Duran.
I expect to be seen as buyers for BP at the deadline but I don’t think the market will be as good as last year where you had true studs like M. Miller, Duran among others moved.
I am always disappointed at a loss. But this seemed to slam into they were one move short at the DL last year like no other. The Padres made the splash move for a what looks like a generational guy at the closer position.
Just my butch.
