Colt is smooth at SS.

Need the bat to catch up.

Sadly seldom happens with players this young...
I guess JP has been taken grounders at third base so hopefully we gotta better than average defender at shortstop now

JP can't even cut it as a shortstop. Why would we want him at 3B...

JP is slow. Range at SS is a premium along with CF. Leo was OK at third base as a defender but shit The bed with the bat JP is a big upgrade over him and can hold it down until Donovan gets healthy. JP has a decent bat and has a bit of “clutch” in him.

Do you not see the same?

Crawford to 2B makes more sense to me, but pretty irrelevant this year given who else is available for the other positions. Put him at 3B, that's fine, better than SS even.

What I didn't like seeing is JP wants to retire a Mariner because of the move.

JP can retire next season if he wants to... He's kinda the alter Rafael Devers, happy to change positions for the team. That's a nice attitude. The Giants sure are stuck with some bad contracts.

You know I am not a JP fan but he is the best option at 3B until Donovan comes but and creates a cluster fuck log jam. 3B is better for him as well.

While 3rd may be a good spot with JP reduced range/speed. I can believe his arm can handle the position. We have seen so many poor throws from him. Maybe Young at 3rd and Emerson SS and Crawford at 2nd. To be fair though I am fine with him gone/retired after year is over.

JP is one of their better bats. If his defense wasn't a liability then there's no reason not to continue to use him. It could be interesting. Its probably not going to help. I think it's his arm that's the biggest issue. I think there's something wrong, an injury, that preseason business. It's interesting he volunteered. That really takes the pressure off of Emerson. He doesn't need to view it as taking JPs job. That was a big time move on JPs part.

The statement of "JP being one of their better bats" is a damning statement of how bad our hitting is. :)

Yeah that isn't happening. If he gets an offer elsewhere to start for some shit team for more years and 5x the money he is gone....
