The mere mention of Pete O'Brien and Chowd Figgins makes my skin crawl! It surprises me that Coles is on that list. I guess I just don't remember him being that terrible.

Coles is probably the worst player on this list considering he put up that WAR in barely 100 games. Most of it stemming from a -1.7 bWAR run in 48 games in 1984. For context, Marcel Ozuna is currently the worst player in baseball via WAR and he has put up -0.8 in 46 games played. Even Kolten Wong, who was unplayable, put up only -1.1 bWAR in 67 games.

That run by Coles had to be REAL bad.

That's crazy. Of course, non of the games back then were on TV and I was pretty dang young.

I remember when we signed O'Brien and the organization and fans were all yeah, we're players in the free agent market! Just really sad that he was the fist name free agent that the organization ever signed, and on top of that he was coming off a blah year in Cleveland. Sure enough, four years of suck.

And Coles, he was supposed to be an all-star but like a lot of players in the '80s the organization gave up on him early and he did have one good season for the Tigers, started to suck, then we got him back and he had a great 1/3 of a season but then went right back to sucking.
