All of Junior's great accomplishments aside, he Did leave the team for the last time, in a totally classless manner, destroying the chemistry of the clubhouse, in his child-like rants against Wakamatsu, who benched a clearly over the hill guy.
Slash and burn.
How many icons ended their careers in such a petulant way, I don't recall many.
And Junior sabotaged efforts to maximize the return for him, by demanding he go to the Reds only.
They should not have brought him back.

Ichiro only intersected with Gar. However, they also had Buhner, Tino/Sorrento, and Blowers. What killed them was that they usually only had one other good starting pitcher and maybe one good pitcher in the bullpen.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 3:32 amBut again, all five on one team and we have exactly zero WS appearances to show for it. Classic fucking clowns..And they still think that is a good idea today. Never forget when Stanton says he runs the M's like any other business.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 3:40 pmFunny, just saw this posted on Facebook!
On this day, the Seattle Mariners traded setup man Jeff Nelson to the Yankees for Armando Benítez. There was actual context to the trade: Nelson had publicly called out the Mariners organization for failing to make a much-needed move to bolster the offense, as Seattle was clearly short a bat to make a strong playoff run.
This was also the third straight season the Mariners stood pat at the trade deadline due to frugal ownership a conservative approach that had already cost them a spot in the 2002 postseason.
Famously, in 2002, CEO Howard Lincoln made a controversial statement regarding team philosophy:
"The goal of the Mariners is not to win the World Series. It is to field a competitive team year after year, to put itself in a position to win a World Series, and hope at some point that happens."
Jeff Nelson clearly understood the internal dynamics of the organization and spoke up not just for his teammates, but for the entire fanbase.
Ultimately, the Mariners missed the 2003 playoffs.

Yeah, the above comment from Lincoln stinks of Dipoto. Howard was the one that first caused me to hate the Front Office. That dude ruined what should have been a dynasty because he was an egotistical fuckhead. Basically, he is most likely Jerry's father. Trading Graveman in the middle of a playoff chase gave me fricking PTSD.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 5:08 pmClassic fucking clowns..And they still think that is a good idea today. Mike Moore had several good seasons for the Ms He is right in between Cameron and Olerud on the franchise WAR leaderboard. In 85 he had 17 wins and a 6.3 WAR.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2026 10:21 pm30. Logan Gilbert

On what planet is Moore #22? In four of his seven seasons with the Mariners he SUCKED. Iwakuma and Hanson were way better, and Gilbert is way better. WTF

Re: Top 50 Mariners of all time
Here's the thing though: Cameron never sucked in a Mariner uniform, and Olerud only sucked at the end of his career. Moore had three really bad seasons and one other bad season out of seven, and that 4.6 WAR in a season where he had a 4.30 ERA and a 1.402 WHIP is baffling. His overall WAR is more of an accumulation than it is indicative of how good he was. An average player over a full season is worth 1.8 WAR, so you can accumulate 1.0s and 1.5s and that doesn't make you a good player.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 7:49 pmMike Moore had several good seasons for the Ms He is right in between Cameron and Olerud on the franchise WAR leaderboard. Man, different times. Makes you wonder what effect that had on guys like him, Mark Langston, Mike Parrott, Jim Beattie, etc. Langston feuded with Dick Williams over being "overworked", publicly criticized him, and Williams called Langston "gutless". Weird because Langston had by far the best and longest career.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 8:14 pmHe had 56 complete games.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2026 7:49 pmMike Moore had several good seasons for the Ms He is right in between Cameron and Olerud on the franchise WAR leaderboard.
