The problem's systemic...

Some teams just have good owners that actually care about winning. It's obvious which ones at this point.

MLB and the Mariners each only care about the bottom line because it's business. And people keep paying.

People LOL'd the "not another dime until..!" guy, but he was right all along.

Then stop watching. It kills me how other fans get blamed when posters here are consumers as well

It looks like its starting as an ANONYMOUS player has spoken out.

https://www.si.com/mlb/mariners/onsi/da ... 20baseball.
Anonymous player wrote:“All I know is we tend to win games when we hit homers. And to hit homers, you need to pull the ball.”
Anonymous player wrote:“It’s fair to say we are a group at a crossroads.”
Rumours are its either Luke Raley or the departed Mitch Garver of all people.

Raley in particular has gone from a 50% pull-rate earlier in the season to around 38% (In absolute terms: That’s a 12 percentage point drop but in reality it means he pulls the ball 24% less often than he did earlier in the season).

The players are saying there has been a change in philosophy to aim for more down the middle singles.

Who is responsible for the change? Find the answer and that's who is to blame.

And don't rule Edgar out of the reckoning, as sickening as it is to ponder - he is supposed to be Seitzer's boss (Senior Director of Hitting Strategy) so he will have signed off on any change. Let's hope its not him, but don't give him a free pass from scrutiny because he's got a huge amount of goodwill from his legend status.

Professional suicide from one of Wilson / Seitzer / Martinez. My money is on Seitzer.

This is one of those articles based on another writers article deal which i am not real fond of, or am a big fan of Person who wrote it. Its based on a seattlle times Jude Law article, its quite long. I coudnt get it to copy or would post that one

Im confused about the comments. Yeah edgar was an opposite field hitter. Anybody that watched him knows that. And the hitting approach with the current coaching has clearly been an all field approach. Thats been well known. And the fact is they hit a lot of home runs doing it. Hitting home runs hasnt been the issue. They havent changed anything that i can see. That player seems to be saying they should change it. Make him the hitting coach. Is it Garver, Im all for it
In 2024, hitting coaches Brant Brown and Jarret DeHart were heavily invested in a modern, data-driven approach. Hitting home runs was, above all, the priority; coaches often asked hitters to try pull the ball off the foul pole to do so.

The hitting philosophy went to the other extreme when Seitzer and Magallanes took over at the start of 2025, with franchise icon Edgar Martinez also involved as a hitting strategist.
Hitters, at the time, hailed that traditional approach — try to hit line drives up the middle — as simple and refreshing. And it worked last year, when the Mariners ranked as one of MLB’s best lineups and finished second in the AL with 238 home runs, buoyed by Cal Raleigh’s historic 60-homer breakout.
Over the past two seasons, no team has relied more on homers than the Mariners; roughly half of their runs have come via the ;) home run.

It was no surprise, then, when the Mariners’ run production really began to cool off in June. Their home-run totals took a dramatic downturn from 42 in May, tied with the White Sox for MLB’s most, to 29 in June, among the lowest in MLB. The correlation was clear.

“All I know is we tend to win games when we hit homers. And to hit homers, you need to pull the ball,” one Mariners hitter, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly, said last month.

“It’s fair,” he added, “to say we are a group at a crossroads.”

“I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive,” Wilson said. “Having a good (up-the-middle) approach does allow you to hit the ball out of the ballpark … and that’s what we’re looking for.”
Heres a breakdown of edgars approach
Edgar Martínez’s middle-of-the-field hitting philosophy focuses on making square contact, keeping the bat in the hitting zone as long as possible, and reacting to inside or outside pitches from a balanced, non-overstriding position. Rather than trying to pull everything for power, hitters use their legs for natural power and spray line drives across the entire field.

Core Elements of the Approach
Think Middle: Set your sights on hitting line drives straight back up the middle or to the opposite field.

React to Location: Use a compact swing to adjust to inside or outside pitches once you track them, rather than guessing.

Balance and Posture: Keep your upper body centered and avoid overstriding or lunging forward.Power from the Ground: Generate bat speed and force from your lower half and legs rather than forcing it with your arms
Heres the Jude Law article. I fail to see the cause and effect relationship. I remember everyone being pretty happy that they embraced a more traditional approach. And it didnt seem to affect their home run production then. So how is there a relationship now?

The Mariners just got beat 22-0 by the team with the best record in baseball, that also happens to be last in baseball in homeruns. But home runs are the issue...ok
The Brewers have 117 home runs this season, the fewest in baseball, but as was pointed out by Seattle manager Dan Wilson, they have multiple players with the ability to go deep.

"They'll put bunts down and put pressure on the bases and steal bags," Wilson said before the game. "They also have the ability to hit the home run. You kind of have to prepare for all areas of the game."
Ill go with the, all areas of the game part

Brewers hitting approach
Core Principles of the Brewers'

Creating Chaos & Capitalizing on Mistakes: The team identity is built on grinding down opponents, taking advantage of defensive miscues, and forcing the other team to make plays under pressure.

Selective Aggression: Brewers hitters rank among the lowest in first-pitch swing rates in Major League Baseball, preferring to be patient and deep into counts, yet they do major damage when they do decide to swing early.

Scrappy, High-Contact Production: Instead of relying strictly on home runs, the offense thrives on high on-base percentages, opposite-field hitting, moving runners, and utilizing speed/baserunning.

Coach Strategy: The team utilizes a collaborative group of hitting coaches and coordinators (such as Jason Lane, Daniel Vogelbach, and others) who share a unified organizational message while tailoring mechanical and mental approaches to fit each individual hitter's strengths.
That sounds to me like an approach Edgar could relate to. I think the issue is actually getting it implemented. Thats what a great coach can accomplish, and i dont think that has to do with being good at it themselves. Maybe they should make Vogelbach manager

Sorry but whoever made that comment sounds like an itdiot to me. The art of hitting a baseball is about being able to go opposite field. Unless your reggie jackson i guess

Last night’s loss was irrelevant to the mariners ownership. The run differential is meaningless. A Loss is a loss, and a win is a win, and as long as we average 54% each season, the ownership has done exactly what they said to do.

This is why the team will not be sold and why Dipoto is keeping his job. A crushing loss is just a checkmark in the balance sheet. If we win by 22 points, that would carry the same weight as a 1-0 squeaker. The team and its coaching staff only have to be competent enough to win slightly more than 50% of the time.

It is sheer lunacy.
