Depends what kind of prospect he is I guess. He didn't seem to need a soft landing as he was dropping a bomb over the center field wall at Fenway.

You're right that they're not treating Montes like he could save their season. But that's pretty much what they need. Taylor Ward's not gonna do it (that's where the Dipoto hate comes from- he can't pick an MLB bat to save his life).

So, instead, they'll platoon, as usual. And Montes will tail off like everyone else does.
I think thats it. Montez is a september callup. Thats generally considered to be about giving a prospect a taste of the big leagues as them being ready to save a season. They brought up Ford last season, did he ever actually play? Montez has struggled against left handed pitching so far in the minors. So dipoto promotes him and then runs him out there daily against ML lefties in an attempt to save the season? That to me would smell like negligence. Sacrificing his prospect to try and deflect from the lousy season. Dipotos approach might seem conservative but isnt that preferred to desperate attempts to save his job? I really don't want dipoto trying to save the season, that worries me
Sacrificing his prospect??? Does he think he is facing Chris Sale who is going to hit him in the eyeball with 99mph gas??? fyi Laz is used to striking out A Lot vs. both LH and RH minor league arms. He is a grown man with a WIFE and child who grew up Poverty stricken if CUBA. I think he can handle striking out vs. a LH MLB starter or reliever. He actually did on Tuesday and didn't Hang himself in his hotel room. My God.

Did you realize that if there is a lock-out next year Laz won't be eligible to play in the minors cuz he was put on the 40-man. Seems to me they were willing to risk a year of his development in order to capitalize on what he has to offer now. So why the kid glove treatment?
They would have had to put him on the 40 in a couple months to protect him from the Rule V draft but still I agree with you obviously....
Yeah, Donn corrected me on that. Weird how you guys knew about that but the fuckhead radio hosts that get paid to know what's going on in the local sports scene didn't seem to.

Every single day I hear one of them say something to demonstrate their ignorance. Just beyond belief for guys that literally get paid money to talk about sports...

Thats fine. But i dont think you are going to find a lot of support that protecting his newly promoted prospect from left handed pitching makes dipoto stupid. If you try to paint every decision he makes as stupid it will only delute the ones that actually are. You are going to hold out for a GM that doesnt think like that? Dont hold your breath

My point is that in the likely event of a lockout Montes won't be able to play minor league ball next season so i wouldn't be restricting his plate appearances now. But i guess they're screwed either way since apparently it's a given that he can't hit off left-handers and would be traumatized by the experience. Perhaps they could send him to Venezuela or Korea to skirt the lock-out rules.
And on the other hand, arent you guys always going on about how they fuck up their prospects? Wasnt Kelenic rushed? Emerson rushed? Now Laz is bullet proof, go figure

It has nothing to do with defending dipoto. I dont believe theres a team in baseball thats making making a september prospect callup just to run him out there against whoever is pitching. You guys need to differenciate between your dipoto hate and generally accepted method. You can bitch about it all you want, but you are never going to get it. All it really does is weaken your actual case against dipoto

Such an inane loser mentality. Is Laz going to cry and be mentally ruined if he Ks vs. a LH MLB starter in his 2nd MLB game EVER??? Who the FUCK comes up with this limp dicked bitch pussy ideas???? Let me guess. Liberals???
You got that right, its baseball people, and they are all a bunch of liberals. You're the one that has to live with that

From a game strategy point, sitting Montes against the lefty makes sense if you replace him with someone more capable. In this case that would have been Cal who's swinging the bat well. The problem is that they replaced him with Ward because they learned nothing from Refsnyder. Just imagine if we come up one game short.

Laz turns 22 next month and as you mentioned is a Sept. Call up. Let him rock just like like they did with the little white kids...

He struggles against lefties. I dont see whats to be gained by rolling him out his second day in the majors to struggle against a leftie here. You could in fact damage the confidence he is developing. Its like bringing along a boxer. You pick your fights, you dont go out of your way to get his ass kicked. As a fan youd like to see it ok. But at least dipoto isnt going out of his way to indulge fans.
