With two known withdraws and Joe Madden and Tony LaRussa weighing in you would hope Stanton would see the light and jettisoned jettison Jerry. We appear to be in quite a mess

Rocco out. No one wants to work for Johnny boy Stanton.

You get paid millions to watch the Mariners from the dugout. It's a decent gig.

That would be the only reason. You also have to deal with Johnny boy and Jerry on a daily basis.

Re: New Manager Poll
Well, they will hire someone they like. But, I mean once you had the job, you could tell Jerry to take his statistics and shove them up his ass. If you were piling up Ws and winning the fans over, there would be nothing they could do.Sports Hernia wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 2:32 amThat would be the only reason. Re: New Manager Poll
Everybody wants to play the cynical card, that Dipoto will just run it as business as usual. But the point is he can't, he's admitted that himself. If you’re a candidate this is a great situation. Whoever he hires he's not going to be able to just fire again. He's played that card too many times. He has to get this one right. It's going to be a rare opportunity for a manager to hold cards. Whoever he offers the job to its going to be able to set the terms. If a candidate is concerned about their freedom to operate all they have to do is make it clear in the interview process.
Interviews work both ways. Dipoto is going to be interviewed as well. The manager sets the terms of his agreeing to the job. When you're dealing with a veteran ML manager that's what you're going to get. It's not like Dipoto and Stanton are the first ever difficult FO types to come along. Some pretty big assholes have managed to hire some pretty good managers. George Steinbrenner comes to mind
If dipoto decides to avoid that by hiring another rookie, ok, then he's risking his own job. It is hanging by a thread.
What really might be interesting is what it's going to cost them. One argument for the rookie manager is it was primarily a cost savings move. Are they going to increase the budget? That's really what it come down to. You pay them and they will come to work for you.

Re: New Manager Poll
so Espada and Kanzler are set for in person interviews. I don't see an issue with Espada, I don't know about Kanzler, a none manager. Lets take Espada for example, Dipoto needs Espada as much or even more than Espada needs a job. What Espada is going to do is set the parameters of how he manages. He's has spent years under some of the more hard nosed managers in the business. I am sure he has his approach in place. It would be pointless for Dipoto to give him the job if they couldn't agree with how it was going to be run. Its going to be critical for all that to be laid out before hand, that's what the interview will entail, laying out the parameters.
