Breaking News. We traded for Nelson
Re: Breaking News. We traded for Nelson
Getting one of if not the most dominant guard in football!!!
Great fricking move by John.
Can really fix an average at best line.

Now go add the pro bowler Khalil Mack or Tui T from Chargers. Mack would be an easy get. You wanna make a statement go get 1 of the best pass rushers of his time.

My best friend at work is from Indy and he said "You just got the best guard in the league for pennies....you have to be feeling great......That is such a huge upgrade, he is so awesome"

I don't know if i'd call a 3rd and 5th pennies for a rental. If they can extend of re-sign him then definitely a good deal. They must not have been happy with Zabel''s lack of improvent this year.

Nelson is on an expiring contract as well, who knows who they might go after to re-sign. I am not against adding additional talent but this move is incremental. Its not really clear what the path is, it is interesting. I agree, Bradford and Nelson sounds formidableauroraave wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 5:40 pmI don't see bradford getting benched - he's proven too valuable. The problem now is his free agency situation - someone will overpay him. He's not elite but he fits us perfectly due to time spent with the same group. The zabel to center move would be a long game play, not likely to happen mid season but anything is possible. Lambs fans melting down right now - that alone makes this move worth itDonn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 5:33 pmI don't think you move Zabel to center in the middle of the season, its too critical a position, needs reps with the qb, as well as Sundell is responsible for identifying the the defenses they are facing.
Seems like its going to be which tackle you want to pair Nelson with. With Jones playing it could make sense to play nelson on that side. Its an interesting problem to have. Having nelson and bradford both playing would seem like a pretty imposing run attack. And I don't think you tag team it, who gets benched stays benched• Identifying the "Mike" linebacker: Pointing out who the central defender is so the blocking scheme has a focal point.
• Calling out the defensive front: Letting the line know if the defense is stacked in an odd or even front, or shifting before the snap.
• Identifying blitz threats: Warning the guards and tackles about where an extra defender might rush from.![]()

I posted this in another thread, but it really grabbed me.
"When Nelson gets on the field, he's mean. There are countless social media clips of him destroying some unsuspecting defender. At the combine he calmly described himself as a nasty player and said his goal for his opponents was to 'take their will away to play the game'."
Nelson is 30, Mack is 35.

JS is going to enter that market at a position hes called overvalued?....can one argue JS values guards more than he values RBs?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 6:15 pmI don't know if i'd call a 3rd and 5th pennies for a rental. JS clarifying his guards are overvalued remarkQuenton Nelson is projected to command a league-high contract for an interior offensive lineman, likely falling in the range of $25 million to $29+ million per year.
“The statement, I guess, is really not a level of importance; it’s truly important. It’s highly valued. But we still, to this day, because of the dearth of talent at the position, will overpay at that position and will overdraft at that position,” Schneider said. “We’ve been guilty of it, and we probably will be guilty of it in the future as well. It’s just based on a level of talent.
“The philosophy is not ‘we’re not going to overpay’ — we probably will because we have to. But you have to be smart with those decisions.”

Zero chance he doesn't get resigned. That would be a JS priority- obviously. He's not an idiot. Probably already in talks with the agent to gauge cost. I can see something like a four year extension for 65/75 heavy on bonuses to keep it cap friendly. Yeah, they got him on the cheap. Remember that we have a lot of draft capitol this year. There is a good chance we lose bradford to someone like the jets who will make him the highest paid lineman in the leagueSibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue Oct 27, 2026 6:15 pmI don't know if i'd call a 3rd and 5th pennies for a rental. Do you really think JS isn't playing the long game here? This is a great move. Like when we picked up shaheed last year and he turned out to be invaluable to the SB run. It was a game changer. This could be too.
Re: Breaking News. We traded for Nelson
If Zabel slides to center and Nelson playes LG, would that mean Bradford can play RG? And Sundell would be benched?
I kind of like that, if that's possible.....Zabel has short arms and was kind of predicted to play center in the NFL anyway I think.
Our running game could improve dramatically with a little time and playing together. Just at the right time with our 2 top RB coming back.
I like that we're doing big moves to try and repeat. Way to go, JS. You're the best.
