NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks believes Wagner should look to reset the market when negotiating his extension.
“Plus, the team knows that Wagner can use the potential cost for applying the franchise tag (projected to be $16.845 million next year) to him as a bargaining chip in negotiations,” Brooks writes. “With that number considered the starting point for any new deal, it’s not hard to envision him snagging a deal that puts him in the exclusive $20 million club for non-quarterbacks.”
Does BWags want to get JS fired?

Re: Does BWags want to get JS fired?
i dont see how Brooks statements support his analysis. if the franchise number is less than $17M, then team could do nothing and pay his existing $10 or $11 M this year (or whatever it is), then franchise him for a two-year average of $14 M - why would they give him $20M instead? personally i think both they and he want him here for for his career (as opposed to hitting the market at age 32), and settle on a 4-year $63 - 66 M deal with a lot guaranteed and/or signing bonus. Front-loaded so he can claim highest-paid over Mosley, and not a cap casualty cut in final years (sort of the reverse of the typical deal).
Re: Does BWags want to get JS fired?
It would be an average of 18 mil to franchise Wagner for two seasons. A 4y /66 with more guaranteed should do it .57reasons wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 8:09 pmi dont see how Brooks statements support his analysis. if the franchise number is less than $17M, then team could do nothing and pay his existing $10 or $11 M this year (or whatever it is), then franchise him for a two-year average of $14 M - why would they give him $20M instead? personally i think both they and he want him here for for his career (as opposed to hitting the market at age 32), and settle on a 4-year $63 - 66 M deal with a lot guaranteed and/or signing bonus. I don't think it matters why the market is set. Like I said before, someone is going to pay Bobby...he knows that, and so do Pete and John.ThePro wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 7:07 pmWish in one hand and s*** in the other and see which one fills up first. Wagner is getting his money. He's 28. Won't be 30 for another two years.auroraave wrote: ↑Tue May 28, 2019 5:35 pmThe league's most idiotic team, the Jets, resetting the market because they have no other way of attracting players, does not mean the Seahawks need follow their lead. This is why the Jets are the Jets and the Seahawks are a wildly successful franchise under their current leadership. I expect Wags to remain with the team, but I do not think they reset the market. They don't have to. It's one thing to negotiate with people you have known your whole career, versus going out on the open market and dealing with the unknown. No need to go over 15mm IMO.
Again, the risk factor needs to be considered - by both sides. There will always be a team that will over pay - Seattle just doesn't do that - and you cannot argue with their success rate. Pats are the exact same way. Zero need to set a new precedent for a (great) dude about to turn 30.

Re: Does BWags want to get JS fired?
btw I am seeing $24MM in cap space. If we resign Bobby for $18-20MM we won't have room for Reed, right?

Re: Does BWags want to get JS fired?
you saw that in the Bell article...
Wagner showing up at these OTAs but refusing to practice until he gets a new, megabucks contract—and, yes, that’s coming—and Mychal Kendricks also watching following surgery leaves Austin Calitro calling the defensive signals this week.
