I think we have two MLB OFers in the system if you don't count one nut McGillicutty and 6 big league starters. I would give our SP situation a 7-8 and our OF situation a 5.Bil522 wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 6:11 pmOk, I know we have plenty of OF's but read this article from BA on Zac Veen. He needs to be our pick if he is available. I am thinking he is a bigger version of Kelenic.

Yeah if Veen can stick in CF we can trade him for an AS 3B or LF mid 2021.

Re: Comprehensive look at who every mock draft has us taking
Lol...yeah no need for us to have a Yelich/ Bellinger comp on our team
Re: Comprehensive look at who every mock draft has us taking
I think JD would prefer to still have a job in 2024 than be watching Veen do a Yelich/Bellinger impersonation from his couch. If this was his first year or second year he could take him but its his 5th season and he has promised playoffs by fall of 2021 when Veen will still be 19 and in A ball. If a Veen trade is his ticket to they playoffs he will do it. It is what it is.....

I already have been since March! And why I said these scouting websites are lazy for mocking us Garrett Mitchell. For me, Zac Veen has been the pick for the last 2 months now.Bil522 wrote: ↑Mon May 25, 2020 6:14 pmOk, I know we have plenty of OF's but read this article from BA on Zac Veen. Just dream of a Kelenic, Julio, Veen outfield....we would finally have a good LF![]()

If JD was an android that was programmed with Artificial Intelligence with the sole objective of maximizing the long term success of the org I am sure he would consider taking Veen without any reservations. Alas he is a human whose #1 priority is to make the playoffs in the next to years so that he will still have a job. Only way Veen helps him do that is by trading him. Pretty simple.

Re: Comprehensive look at who every mock draft has us taking
No matter what, we'll have the option to choose from one of the following 6.
S. Torkelson
A. Martin
E. Hancock
A. Lacey
Z. Veen
N. Gonzalez
So that's gotta make you pretty damned happy right there!
Kyle Lewis, Mallex Smith, Jake Fraley, and Haniger could all be used to fetch other pieces for the ball club, with a long term OF commitment to Kelenic, Veen, and Rodriguez. Don't think for a second trader Jerry couldn't flip them for something either. And its not like we don't have a current SS and 2B in Crawford and Long. You also have an experienced 3B in Kyle Seager that you could afford for years.
There's talk coming out of Kansas City that they are both high on Nick Gonzalez and Zac Veen and are trying to decide between the two.

Interesting. Is Lacey and Hancock considered a toss up?Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 4:29 amNo matter what, we'll have the option to choose from one of the following 6.

btw I am going to have a pick six contest for the draft. Pick the first 6 picks pretty much how you just did. You get 1 point for picking a name in the top six and 3 points for picking them in the right slot. 5 points if you pick the M's pick. $100 if you go 6-6 in the right order......

Royals are behind us in the rebuilding process but Mayo says they are still more likely to pick Gonzales over Veen because he can hit the bigs quickly. I think that is being undervalued. Even early stagee rebuilding teams are less likely to want to wait 4-5 years for a high risk HS guy. The established perennial contenders have the luxury of thinking more long term. Hopefully we are there in the next few years.Sexymarinersfan wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 4:29 amNo matter what, we'll have the option to choose from one of the following 6.

Hey I can't, and won't get mad for getting Veen as a consolation prize.D-train wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 11:04 amRoyals are behind us in the rebuilding process but Mayo says they are still more likely to pick Gonzales over Veen because he can hit the bigs quickly. As far as Lacey and Hancock go, Emerson at the beginning of the season was a consensus 1-1 hands down top pick. However a few mediocre outings against non elite teams caused his draft stock to slide a bit. He'd still be hands down better than any pitching prospect we have in our farm system and maybe ever. I won't be crying if he slides to us at 6.
Asa Lacey, I've done a piece on him before the season started was a borderline Top 5 pick when the season started, but came out smoking when the season started. The fact that he's a southpaw only adds to the rarity of landing such a rare gem in this year's draft. I doubt he'll make it past #3.
As far as this contest goes, that's awesome! Are they blind bids, and if so when do the final submissions need to be entered?
1. Detroit - Spencer Torkelson
2. Baltimore - Austin Martin
3. Miami - Asa Lacey
4. Kansas City - Nick Gonzalez
5. Toronto - Emerson Hancock
6. Seattle - Zac Veen
