Now, while polls would show higher numbers, they're counting the same people multiple times.

Not sure why you framed that quote, but I'm guessing you think I made that up. Unfortunately, they do count repeats. If they didn't I'd give you higher figures, as lying here serves no purpose because of that new thing called The Google that can out you. Just ask RG from the old Mariner Forum about that.

Umm yeah... Make shit up. What a great way to strengthen your already asinine stance. You just can't be taken seriously. .DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 12:05 amNot sure why you framed that quote, but I'm guessing you think I made that up. Unfortunately, they do count repeats. Agreed, Darren. We have a nice forum here and we should not be accusing other posters of fabrications nor should we be directing curse words at other posters. I myself will try to set a good example.

And I will make sure I provide fake statistics to verify any outrageous statement.
Re: Redskins are changing their name
Sure many laws and policies have changed, but still plenty room for more, and getting rid of the symbols of racism is certainly part of that (logos, names, flags, statues, etc.) So too is the example set in the news today with the white woman in Central Park charged with misdemeanor for her 911 call on a fellow park-goer "guilty" of being black.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:46 am
The laws and policies on the books now need to be enforced and upheld before you add new ones. As far as destroying the country. That seems to be the only thing that works. As far as making innocent people feel guilty about the past. I'm more concerned about the sins of the present and the future. We do nothing and yet racism flourishes and doesn't go away. Pointing it out and making a stand against it is the only way to stop it.
As for the majority being made to feel guilty, that's an appropriate feeling to be embraced - not that we are necessarily to blame, but certainly our ancestors are, and it's high time past offenses were acknowledged, condemned, and reparations made for damage done. Georgetown U. did that, acknowledging its negative founding history and offering free tuition to descendants of displaced victims. It's not about unhealthy shaming or revenge (that perhaps played a part in the rise of Nazi fascism) - instead it's about leveling the playing field and making things right for those put at unjust disadvantage.
Re: Redskins are changing their name
So two wrongs make a right and we should continue to judge people and treat them differently based on the color of their skin. Brilliant. btw the vast majority of people's ancestors emigrated post Civil War but they have to pay for the sins of other people's ancestors because they are white and that will make things better. You seem like a smart person, how can you not see the absurdity of that notion?57reasons wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 6:05 amSure many laws and policies have changed, but still plenty room for more, and getting rid of the symbols of racism is certainly part of that (logos, names, flags, statues, etc.) So too is the example set in the news today with the white woman in Central Park charged with misdemeanor for her 911 call on a fellow park-goer "guilty" of being black.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:46 am

What new law can be added? Under the eyes of the law, everyone is equal... how can that be improved upon?57reasons wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 6:05 amSure many laws and policies have changed, but still plenty room for more, and getting rid of the symbols of racism is certainly part of that (logos, names, flags, statues, etc.) So too is the example set in the news today with the white woman in Central Park charged with misdemeanor for her 911 call on a fellow park-goer "guilty" of being black.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:46 am

As a young student, you cheat on a test, get caught and are thrown out of school. Using that story, you teach your child not to cheat and obey the rules. Your child uses that exact same example for their child to learn. Is your grand child supposed to feel embarassed and guilty because of a bad choice you made? If your answer yes, how many generations are they supposed to feel guilt for the choices you made? The sins of our forefathers are bad. They made poor choices but we have learned from their mistakes. We do not make the same mistakes. How long must we feel guilty?

Agreed. All of those who were involved are dead and gone and it's our world now. There's nothing to make up for and the only thing we need to do is not repeat the wrongs that they did. I don't want to pay squat for something that some guy with a goofy wig named Ichabod did in the 1700s. If Americans have to make reparations than so does pretty much the entire world, including Africans whose ancestors enslaved each other. See how ridiculous that sounds?
Reminds me of a documentary I saw about ten or so years ago where they took some World War 2 sailors from the US and Japan out into the Pacific to look for sunken naval vessels. The sailors befriended each other and as they were all sitting there they were asked what message they would like to pass on to people today. One US veteran immediately replied, "Don't do this". Everyone else nodded and that was it. No revenge. No reparations. No dwelling on it even though it was the worst thing humanity ever did. Just don't forget and don't repeat it.
